I have thought about trying Photography for years but never really got around to it.

Recently my mobile phone provider offered me a free Nikon D3200 with an 18-55 DX VR Lens if I renewed for a further 2 years.

Now I know it's not the best camera in the world but it seems to take some pretty decent shots, that said I mostly use it in full auto mode.

What are the best types of things to practice on to get the hang of all the functions this thing does, I ask because if I am honest I find all the settings pretty daunting.

I did buy a few things for it when I first got it like a cleaning brush, lens cloth and a puffer.

I also picked up a cheap set of filters, UV, FLD and CPL (my understanding is the FLD filter is basically useless on a digital camera)

I tend to leave the UV filter on at all times to act as protection for the lens.

A case and tripod as well as I felt these were essential.

I also got lens hood and remote triggers

The triggers were more for Astrophotography so I did not jiggle the scope when taking the pictures.

I can't afford to buy lenses for it right now but is there anything else I should be looking as as starter equipment?

Any advice you guys can offer would be appreciated.
