Hello, got myself a PS3 this week, I was waiting for the new xbox but thought sod it and got a PS3 slim.

Got to say it's class! I've never had a console since the original PS. Anyway, I only have Modern Warfare 2 and GTA4 but I'm on the PS network as lemonkettaz

So feel free to add :)

I didn't know where to put this so made a new thread soz.

Any game recommendations? I want Red Dead Redemption next, but I'm interested in a racing game too, I was looking for an F1 game, but the new one isn't out till later this year apparently.

Cool. I might add you a bit later, are you going to be signing up to the Playstation Plus service or are you sticking with the free PSN account?

As for games you'll have to get Uncharted 2 and Metal Gear Solid 4. I personally haven't played the original Uncharted and went straight to Uncharted 2, don't think I missed much of the story really although I think you can pick the original up for a couple of quid now. I highly recommend Uncharted 2 though, it's one of the greatest games I've ever played.

What is playstation plus?

That's the marketing guff: http://uk.playstation.com/playstationplus/

Basically it's £40 a year like Xbox Live, and every month Sony give their Playstation Plus subscribers free games, avatars, themes and a few other things. It also adds an option where you set a time and your PS3 will search for all your game updates and also download demos and other stuff it thinks you might be interested in. Mine is set for 4-6 am so while I'm asleep it'll switch on, check for updates for my games, check for firmware updates, check for any demos it thinks I might want to try, download them and then turn it's self off. When you turn the system back on it will let you know what it's downloaded for you.

There's also rumours of Party Chat being added a little later on with Playstation Plus subscribers having access to it, although we don't know much really as it's just rumours. In a nut shell it's £40 a year for a bunch of free content and discounts that change on a monthly basis. It's a total lottery as Sony won't be announcing what is free each month but either way you look at it it's still good value for money as I've almost gathered most of my money back purely from Destruction Derby, Little Big Planet and Wipeout HD which was given away to me in the first month.

That sounds very cool and something MS should have implemented long ago. Although this is a shame it's PS+ only :( Can't see why you'd have to pay extra to get that functionality.

LOL, you forget - the PS3's updates range from 20MB - 800MB. Xbox 360 doesn't need to go looking for updates when they take mere seconds to download and don't make you wait before you can play a game. :D

And what about Xbox's queuing up facility from the website? Isn't that something Sony should have implemented aeons ago, too? :D

I'm sure if Sony had charged for the PSN from day one it'd be much shinier and have more functionality, but they didn't, so they couldn't splash wads of cash all over the place to soup it up. Quit moaning about a free service!

Everybody's Golf World Tour.

Streeteh has a decent list of games. There is quite a back catalogue now. I'd get Uncharted 1 first as it is v.cheap and will introduce you to the characters (a lot appear in the second) as well as the tie-ins etc.

OP, if you like racing games but want something that is a bit different I would recommend split/second, it's great fun and takes a pretty long time to finish the single player, plus multiplayer is a blast. Otherwise wait for GT5!

F1 Championship is good but unforunately although old it seems to still hold it's price.

As already stated uncharted 1 & 2 are excellent although I prefer the story in 1 :)

Playstation + is also an excellent option especially the games already announced & available (Wipeout HD, Zen pinball ect). I believe you will also get a free copy of LBP if you join up this month?

Also noticed you get the Killzone 2 map pack for free which isn't bad as the MP for Killzone is pretty good :)

get motorstorm 1 great little game and can be had for £5 new also wipeout hd fury £15

Also get metal gear solid 4 red dead heavy rain uncharted 2 demons souls could go on it's the reason i sold my 360 and got a ps3 got sick of all the best 360 games being better on my pc no point owning a 360 if you have a gaming pc imo

There's a new F1 game coming out in November which looks very good.

I preferred Uncharted 2 as UC1 becomes very annoying at a particular point (2 does well to a lesser agree but it's further along). I would recommend playing both though; easily the best PS3 exclusives.

PS+ might be worth it but you can get all those games dirt cheap anyway and LBP is great for a day but soon becomes tiresome.

Not played Killzone 2 MP but the single player which I'm currently playing is very linear and bland.

Have a look at Assassins Creed 2, Motorstorm for a driving game and Heavy Rain.

I gave up after 1,562 or something. All my time is on BC2 these days. Much more entertaining/frustrating.

Is that reference to Resistance 2? Damn it riles me just thinking about that trophy now :p So close to a plat on that but 10K kills? By no means impossible but the DM was so boring!

I'm really hoping that the new resistance game will have an even larger online co-op mode with DLC's for it. Or if I'm being greedy, a scenario editor would be phenomenal!

Killzone 2 is still a must-buy. It shows off the capabilities of the PS3 a treat and is a very good fun game to play both on your own or online. (It's also another nearly plat....Godamn Radec on elite mode :o)
