Any help or tips would be appreciated as this is my first adventure into games like this.....

Gone for a Nord if that helps?

Looks and sounds amazing.

To be honest, games like Skyrim are all about the exploration etc. so having someone guide you through it sort of defeats the purpose!

That being said, I would advise deciding what sort of character you want to be earlyish on, so you don't go wasting ability points (although the game is big enough that you can have plenty of points if you decide to change direction part way through :p)

Pick a general class of mage, theif or warrior & the skills you'd like to have. Spend a little time flicking through the skill trees to see what's on offer.

Follow the first open world quest until you've left town, done a dungeon & got back to town to give you a feel for the quests, after that, have a little fun exploring & trying things :)

Save often ;)

You're in for a treat. :D Absolutely love this game!

As above, try to decide what sort of character you want rather than trying to make a jack of all trades type. If it wasn't for the time I've invested smithing and enchanting, my character would be far too squishy, because I'd originally intended on being a battlemage and have now drifted towards sword & shield.

I'm on my first play through of an RPG-style game like this.

I'm so far just going through with a sword & shield, and occasionally flicking to a bow & arrow, and am pretty much completely ignoring the magic/potions side of things.

Maybe the magic thing will follow later...

I'd stick to melee if I were you, as sword & shield is immensely satisfying. Alchemy is useful for stocking up with heal/stamina potions on the cheap though so it's worth investing a perk or two in the tree IMO as you'll likely need them in the more difficult encounters!

Save magic for another play through (perhaps with the balanced magic mod).

Whilst melee is fun you'll be able to progress a lot quicker with a bow and sneaking. Explore everything and save regularly!

I got bored of it - admittedly after 117 hrs lol!
It is a beautiful world but I found the experience a little shallow and never really much of a challenge even though I turned the difficulty up to expert.
It is worth playing and is by no means a bad game.

I have just completed Baldur's Gate and enjoyed that a lot more despite the laughable graphics and it's age.
The best ever roleplaying game for me though is The Witcher 1 & 2, I found it totally engrossing and aimed at an intelligent adult audience.
It is a shame that most games are now like most Hollywood films i.e. all effects and no story/substance.
