Getting back into PC gaming in a week or so. (new pc).

I want to buy Deus Ex.

Steam want £30.
i can get it delivered for £25.

If i buy the shop game for £25 and i install steam can i run the game through the steam client so i dont require the disc everytime i play?
Will the game auto update with patches via the steam client?

cheers.

Yeah. Pay attention to what orderoftheflame said :)

This ONLY works for games either purchased on Steam or games which need Steamworks :) There is a list on wikipedia somewhere of Steamworks enabled games :)

oh crikey i better get studying then lol.

So despite it being £5 more expensive are some people on here going to buy it via steam and if so why ?

Because you get TF2 items, which can sell for around £10. So it makes the game £19.99

Not sure if they're still selling for that, but they're close to it still. People underestimate TF2 promo items worth.

Because it's steamworks, so if I choose to sell the game (box) in a few years time, I can't because it's locked to my steam account. The only thing of interest in the box is the artbook, and perhaps the comic, but these may be available separately at some stage. If not it doesn't bother me.

Just TF2 items, and perhaps convenience.

I've saved £16 quid on my augmented edition over the Steam price, + I'm getting the bonus DVD etc.

If you're completely new to Steam, I'd stick your nose in the FAQ in my sig, it covers things like how to set up the account security and how to get the most out of some of the features.

thanks for that i shall have a nose when i get home today :)

The advantages to getting the boxed version are;
- Often cheaper
- Occasionally some extras (special editions etc)
and
- install from disc, much quicker than downloading it all!

Oh and, my personal preference, having the shiny box sitting in my collection to show off and please my inner horder :P

So going back to my OP.
