What should the first things I should be doing, apart from enjoying it ovcourse

MBP Mid 2010 15"
2.66Ghz i7 Turbo Boost > 3.33Ghz
8Gb RAM
500gb HDD
nVidia 330m 512mb
Hi-res anti glare screen.

So either get rid of it or start using a random service...?

I would start by...trying the inbuilt Apple programs before you download anything else. They're all pretty strong. iChat is the only chat program that isn't an absolute PITA IMO, and Mail just works

That said, I've tried and tried to like Safari...but it's just to unstable for me. So back to Chrome.

Other apps you may like, Steam, Gruml (if you use Google Reader), avoid LibreOffice and use Pages instead, Transmission, Skitch, are a few that work well.

to the op: if your finding it a bit slow get an ssd. also do you have lion on it? that maybe worth a purchase. just make sure its all up to date and browse the app store and dl a lot of free apps and see what you like/use.

Yeah, an SSD is the only change I'd recommend if it's running a bit slow. The rest of the spec is still very decent by today's standards!
