Hi All,

My cousin has just bought a new laptop, he chose the Vista OS for it.

He asked me to do all the config etc, but there are no recovery CD's..

So far all I have used the "Backup your Files" function.. However I think that this is mainly for personal files etc. I dont think it's a OS recovery backup?

The files were backed up to DVD and the file size used was approx 4gb+

This is what I've done so far > http://windowshelp.microsoft.com/Windows/en-US/help/699ce30c-13f1-46ec-9684-e84bf4109dd81033.mspx

So, how can I make a recovery disk? just incase the laptop needs to be reformatted in the future.

There is a driver disc that I have not had chance to view yet.

I have been told that I can make an ISO image of the C:\.. Can I ?

Thanks...

If the laptop didn't come with the disk, the manufacture normally provides some 3rd party software to create a restore disk. As my Sony vaio did. I'd contact them if there is nothing. You’re paying for the os and you should have the disks. Personally I think they've got a cheek not to provide originals anyway.

Hi All,

Thanks for the replies.

I'm just a little worried as I cannot even find a serial key for the OS, and I've never used vista.

It's possible the S/N is on an OEM sticker on the laptop, I'll take a look.

If I had to format the laptop right now, I would not know where to start..

Surely that's not right? It's a brand new laptop. (Bundle)

I'll have to look into it further, maybe there is a recovery partition..

Some oem's are real cheapskates. Last time a friend bought a dell, he had to pay extra just to get an XP CD rather than just OS installed and without it, they dont even supply software to generate a recovery CD.
