new to wirless

hi guys, my dad just bought a new laptop and he wants to get wireless but i have absolutely no idea about wireless as my modem is beside my comp. i am with virgin media if that makes any difference and we really need a router so that he can go on the internet around the house. so what do i do?

For the consumer you have two options, you can either purchase a standalone access point which would connect to your existing router or like in your case you only have a single port modem as such you would need to purchase a router compatible with your internet connection that has an Access Point built in.

Should you be on using ADSL for your internet service a device such as the one below would be suitable.
