morning all and hi :)

ive just managed to pick one of these up with the following games :-

Table Tennis, Battlefield 2MC, FNR, PGR

Over the moon with it all

but last night tried to take the thing online and this is where all my trouble started, maybe im being thick though :)

I checked out the ms Dongle but to be honest its 60 quid id rather not spend unless i have to, I tried my own bluetooth dongle from my pc which works fine on my pc but as soon as i plug it in i get nothing from the xbox its like it doesnt see it.

So my 1st question is do i need to buy the ms one ? or can a pc work at all

secondly i tried to create a wired connection, it picked it up and my router gave the xbox an ip but it would not get a dns ? any help on this would be appreciated aswell.

Hoping to get setup and give you guys a game or 2 of something.

thanks for any advice you can offer to help me get this going

The 360 will only work with the MS wireless dongle, no other USB things will work. The alternative is a wired based approach.

EDIT: As for the DNS, try assigning the IP and DNS manuallym and see if that helps. What is your network setup/layout?

thanks for the quick reply saved me ripping me hair out for another night on that one :)

netowork setup is i believe fairly standard one wirless router which serves my pc and laptop nothing fancy on it, dhcp is served by the router if theres anything else. ill get one of them fancy expensive dongles and go from there i think :(

trust ms to do that when its not necessary

I'm sure one or two people on here are using an unoffical wireless 'thingy'. Forget who they are but I'm sure they will see the thread.

They might be but it will be an ethernet one, not a USB one.

Theres your problem m8. The x360 does not support bluetooth at all, even via 1st party peripherals. Only the official MS wireless adapter will work (which is 802.11 RF, not bluetooth btw).
