hi all

I had a stroke of luck over xmas and was given an Xbox 360 by a friend, he did warn me that the CD drive was a little tempremental and doesn't always open and shut when you push the button, but everything else works fine.

I dashed out and bought a copy of Forza 2 but I'm encountering a few problems getting the game to run. Most of the time the Xbox doesn't recognise the game disc and a message comes up on the screen telling me to insert the game CD into an Xbox 360...!

after a few attempts of opening and closing the drive drawer it will eventually spin into life and the game will start up - and I'm away, however this can take a great many attempts to get there.

Does anyone else know about or have encountered this problem? I haven't owned a console since a PS one so i'm a beginner with the Xbox and its various features and issues - is the drive replaceable if there is a problem (like a desktop PC ?)

thanks

hmmm, really easy ? is there a guide anywhere for this ?

cheers

Yes it's easy but it won't fix the problem.

You can replace the drives if you know someone who can flash the firmware on them, it's very easy to do once you've read up on it but since these flashed drives can be used for piracy we can't discuss them on here.

If it was free just send it to Microsoft to repair it? Cost will be nowhere near the cost of a new console I doubt.

I'd send it to MS, I wouldn't bother destroying the warranty trying to open it up.

I've returned two to them due to DVD drive problems.

Is the console horizontal or vertical?

Try the opposite way just in case.

I have had a 360 which didn't like being vertical at all, would be extremely noisy and wouldn't play certain games, but ran perfectly horizontal.

I've tried both - same problem regardless :(
