New Total recall trailer.

Terrible film.

Lacking the fun and humour of the original, but without the gravitas of the likes of Inception, it just falls between the cracks and is just a bit boring.

Went and watched it last night, totally disconnected it from the original film and book and just watched it as a story in its own right and I thought it was very good, perhaps a tad predictable although there were parts that I thought i'd sussed only to be quite surprised!

Thought it was a great film.
I wouldn't say it was disconnected form the book at all. If anything, it's a lot closer than the Arnie version. Either way, you can't really compare the two.

If you could provide just one way in which it was closer to the PKD story, I would be impressed:) ....it is much further away.

And the statement people seem to be making about it being closer to the book is ridiculous anyway....it is 10 pages long and only features two scenes. ....literally anything that does not take place in Recall or Quaid's apartment is completely made up!

When I heard it was more in touch with the book, I was confused as to how it could be, then I thought that it must have the second memory implant included, which would be insanely cool.....it doesn't though. Pointless. I hate the way they are trying to make out that it is not a remake.

Thats interesting, can I ask which bits? as far as I can recall() the actual plot and plot twists were the same as the Arnie version weren't they?

I did enjoy the parts of the flim that replayed moments from the first flim, gave it a connection to the old one.

The flim in itself is pretty good if you take it what it is.

But am pretty angry how the flim pretty much made the United Federation of Britain the evil guys and the Colony is pretty much the USA fighting for freedom.

Pretty much, it's a retelling of the terroristist act of the American rebellion.

Isn't the colony Australia....

So much so that it removed all tension. Or any which was left after the clichés made it obvious how everything would come out. Wooden characters, a plot that was essentially a load of chases strung together, plot holes you could drive a truck through (can't really point out what they were without spoilering though). And what was with all the fake American accents? Bearing in mind that the film is set in Britain and Australia (and couldn't make up its mind which one it was in at times, or explain how the main characters got from one to the other at one point without using the only available form of transport), why did several non-US actors put on fake US accents, but absolutely no-one had an Australian accent? Someone more cynical than myself might think it was because the Americans can't watch any action film if the hero isn't either a) American, or b) called James Bond.

The Arnie version was cheesy rubbish, but it at least had a sense of (very silly) style. This didn't even have that. They would have been far better ignoring the original plot completely and making a proper film which explored the ideas in the PKD story.

Saw it tonight....

Its ok... I was surprised at all the Previous film references and it has a very Dirty Bladerunner universe feel to it.

The story although nearly identical plays out much better in the original.
The never ending chase sequences become tedious.

The whole Drop - colony thing is a nice idea but ludicrously stupid IMO.

Take it at its face value, don't analyze it for more than a Sci-Fi romp and its watchable enough. I really liked the world design.

7/10 - for effort and brunettes.

I really liked it, bags of action, Kate in little white knickers, violence, three boobies (and she was hot), Jessica Biel and good sfx....what is not to like?

I also thought that Castiel on the sfx part. There was a part where he came outside and it was raining and I just had a little thought to myself "That is the most realistic rain sound I've ever heard". Small thing I know but something I noticed.

Anyway, having not seen the original my perspective is one that has seen the film for the first time. I thought it was pretty damn good, better than I expected it to be.

Finally watched this last night. I should have rented it rather than buy it on Blu-Ray. Perhaps my expectations were too high, but this was just a "US Marshalls" meets "I, Robot" set, as Efour2 said, in a BladeRunner backdrop. It was just a popcorn movie, with nothing in it to make me think about what happened as I'm walking out of the theatre like the original had. I guess that would explain the lack of threads on this forum about it. :)
