I've just picked one of these boxes up on eBay for a very nice price.
AS-1041M-T2
I'm planning to get a couple of the new Quad core Opteron's for now, probably 8344HE's, until the price of the 8000 series Quad cores come down a bit. I'm also going to feed it with 8 gig of memory and a raid array of 300 gig SATA drives. Though I will need to wait a little while before I get it all running, but at the price I couldn't resist.
This is going to be my new database server, as my old Dell 6450 has become too unreliable lately. I've got a copy of Windows 2000 Enterprise that should cover the OS side of things nicely, as well as a copy of SQL Server 2000, though most of the time it will almost certainly be running Folding as well, probably in 4 instances of VMWare.
If and when I finally get it running as a true quad quad, it may be interesting to see how it compares in the single crunchers league. (beware Mr Cob)
