I've been looking for one of these for a few weeks now, saw this one advertised 20 miles up the road and thought it was at least worth a look. Picked it up this evening. Reasonably tidy. A few minor details which will need addressing but overall I'm pleased.

Sweet I like it. Always fancied a mk1 myself but don't think I could put up with it as a daily, getting old now - even my current car starting to do my head in. All original?

Thanks for the comments. :)

Nice motor, like it.
How much do these typically go for now?

A neat, standard Gti in original condition can fetch £2500 - £3000+. I picked this one up for £1150, which is probably the higher end of what I'd be willing to pay for one. Having said that, look on Pistonheads and you'll see similar Gtis going for at least that and a little bit more.

Why does timeless keep getting mentioned? I mean, it still looks alright, but it looks its age - timeless it is not.

Nice purchase.

I think "timeless" simply means it's unaffected by time. I.e. It still looks good 20 years on. The fact it was made 20 years ago isn't to its detriment. In this respect it's "timeless". :)

****ty old German rust-bucket, why on earth would you want one of those?

As stated before, MK2 prices seem to be all over the place at the moment. As a rule they are appreciating, and fairly quickly it would seem. Expect to pay over £1k for a good one, with late 'minters' going for well over £2.5k.
