New track toy :)

Looks like fun - they certainly seem to hold their own at track days I have been to and can keep up with some of the fastest cars for the first half of a drag strip. Safety would concern me on the road though which is what put me of the Atom.

It would blow my mind if crinkleshoes buys a 720s without owning his own home. Surely that's an incredibly daft way to spend your money? But to be fair if you want to then it's none of my business!

I wish I could sell my house and spend it all on a supercar :D (but not really)

Haha, it is very tempting :D

House is on the cards - hoping to start building in 2020. Wifey's mandate... gotta start the housey stuff by the end of 2020.

Love where we're renting at the moment, it's the first place I've rented that I would actually consider buying and the location is perfect for me. So not in a rush to move.

They're surprisingly safe... obviously if you have a massive rolling off and a tree branch comes into the cabin area you're in a bit of trouble... but if you're worried about being hit by another vehicle or something... they're so light and they have good re-enforcement in the right places, so they just get pushed along rather than crumple.

I've seen one in the workshop that was in a big shunt in a race and it had a teeny dent in the side and had just been pushed sideways.

This one might be up for sale in a couple of months... thinking about upgrading to the 620R with paddle shift.

Wish I could, must say its the colour scheme I would go for but I've got a young baby sucking all funds from me atm  Plus no garage so would need to move house as well but that's on the must have list for the next place.

620R must be mental though, you had go in one yet? Much faster than yours?

Yeah, had a go in one before getting this car as we were originally planning to go with one.

The guys who look after our Caterham look after a few others and there was a 620R at Silverstone on Monday.

We were playing and there isn't a huge amount in it - it's a touch faster in a straight line but it's not as significant as you might think.

The main reason for the change is that we want a sequential gearbox. Retrofitting that to this car would be £10k for the gearbox and another £5k for the paddle system. We wouldn't see much of that back in the value of the car.

The 620R already comes with a sequential and so would just need the paddle system... it also has an improved suspension system. So it makes more sense to put the money into that as it'll retain most of its value.

I hired one from Caterham. Booked over the phone. Went down to the main headquarters / dealership down south in Crawley. And took out out for they day (was a saturday iirc)...

Cost me £175 plus a £300 refundable deposit. Not sure what the prices are like now. As this was back in 2016 iirc.

They gave me a 270S. Was a great day.

Never knew you could do this, got the website or contact details, gonna have to book one for a weekend me thinks and what a great idea by Caterham as that kind of car really is a weekend car. :)

I not sure whether they off Saturdays or sundays anymore. Just whole weekends when I last checked.

I say the 420S here. But it was actually the 270S.

120 miles a day and 50p a mile excess? Rubbish!

That's a lot in one day.... I don't think I done more than three quarters of that.

In a car like the 7 I doubt you'd want to do much more than that in a day. It's a very physical (still enjoyable) car to drive.

As an alternative you can also hire Morgans direct from the factory. The Three-wheeler in particular is well worth trying - there's nothing like it! We managed 180 miles in a day's hire, as other than lunch we didnt stop driving all day! Having Wales on your doorstep is a big advantage too.

If you're feeling flush then you could hire an R300 fit a track day from these guys -> www.bookatrack.com
They own the Midlands caterham franchise and have run track days for years and years .Johnny, the guy who owns the company also races them.
I hired one for a Silverstone track day in 2016 - twas epic, expensive but worth it

I'm planning to get a caterham next year ( saving hard at the mo) - would love to do a self build but will probably start with an older one for a year. Would love to take your one @crinkleshoes but the timings not quite right :( and I'd need more time to get my wife used to me spending so much money on a mid life crisis toy !!
