I've been having a look back over the last few pages and found that most spec me TV threads are either around the £500-£600 mark or around the £1500 mark and very little in between!

I currently have a 47" Panasonic DT50 from a few years ago (was around the same age as the GT50 models but i couldn't fit the 50" tv into my space sadly so had to compromise hugely on an LED tv). Crazy to think it was 5yrs ago that i bought it!

We've been pretty disappointed with the blank levels of it pretty much from day 1 compared to our previous Panasonic Plasma. That Plasma went into our bedroom and we still sometimes find ourselves watching films in bed. Especially horrors where there are lots of dark scenes.

We're not moving to a new house and our plasma is too chunky for where it will need to go in the bedroom so we plan on putting the DT50 in there and buying something new for the lounge.

It's a house we're not in yet but here's a rough picture of the room (our TV will not be this high on the wall!)
It's quite light due to the skylights in the ceiling.

I know the Samsung MU7000 seems to get good reviews around the £700 mark but i was looking at spending a little more. I've seen the Samsung QLED Q6F but can't find much info on it. Other than that there's the Sony XE9005.

Both the MU7000 and the XE9005 seem to be very well reviewed but wondered what peoples thoughts were on them.

For sources i'll be using the built in freeview function for normal TV and then we have an Amazon tv box which we use for Kodi, Amazon Prime and Netflix. Not sure how good the Media side of new tv's are (Our Panasonic is junk), but if i could get rid of the Amazon box and be able to run those apps on the tv it'd be nice.

I've also got an Xbox One which will soon be upgraded for a One X.

Any help would be appreciated :)

Interested to see people's thoughts as well, we're looking for a new TV soon, probably upto a 50" with similar budget.

The ones that have caught my eye at the moment are between Sony and LG. Sony i understand has an android OS, whereas LG use their own WebOS. So not really sure if one is considerably better than the other.

I've stuck the same thread on Avforums too just because it's always handy to reach a wider audience if you want to follow that too.

From what i can see the Sony OS can be known to be a bit clunky compared to the others but the actual screen is probably best. I've got the Amazon box still so the UI is probably fairly low on my list of priorities but if you're planning on using it then it might be one to avoid.

From what i've seen the LG LED's seem to be ones to avoid and only worth picking up when you get to OLED territory.

There's so many options though it's a minefield!

They're all about equal in terms of SDR picture quality (bluray etc) but the XE90 wins for HDR. The QLED range has a slightly better colour gamut then the other two, but are over priced.

@Semple - Avoid any TV with an IPS panel unless you need wide viewing angles and don't have the funds for an OLED.

Just picked up the Sony XE8596 for £729, upgraded from a faulty EX700, and it's a massive upgrade - and considering on paper they're very similar, that may sound weird. But the anti reflection filter on the Sony and image processing is outstanding. Great uniformity, excellent colour rendition and very decent viewing angles (considering the VA panel).

I looked at the MU7000, and had a £649 price match for it, but after checking it out in store, it was quite reflective - something I didn't want.

However, HDR on the Sony isn't spectacular, but I'm not fussed, as I didn't expect it to be. The extra colour depth over SDR is a welcome addition, and while it's brighter, there's little to no accuracy with specular highlights.

Android OS is a bit slow, but usable. And nice to get 2 free Sony UHD films from Google Play with it.

Getting my Xbox One S to work in HDR was a pain. If you (or anyone) has one and needs help, PM me for settings :)

In classic "i've blown the budget" mode, i've just been to buy the Samsung Q7F which i'd worked out i could try and get for around £1k.

Got to Currys and they had none in stock except the floor model. I asked if i could get that thinking i'd get some extra discount. Nope they'd sell it me for £1199 and nothing less :(

I spotted that, but the review suggests a 60 second boot up time. Whilst it's not exactly a huge amount of time, i think it'd really annoy me.

A good thing really - the Q7F is a mediocre TV, especially for the price.

I think that's the first negative thing i've read about it.

Annoyingly i had it in my basket at a refurbished place for £799, but was a bit dubious of the website. It's now sold :(

if you can manage £1K the panasonic ebay shop has been doing their 2017 ez952 oled
... although 1 year warranty you still have consumer rights up to 5/6 years, but would have to pay to send it to them.

why avoid IPS panels?

they have no banding issues that VA have, etc. their colours are better. i currently own a plasma, a va panel and an IPS.

the IPS is in no way shape or form the worst of the lot. it excels at a lot apart from one thing. not being true 4K. however I'd be willing to bet nobody here could tell from looking at it alone.

Can't seem to see that, i can see the Samsung Q8F though for £1k which is looking tempting. The LG B7 is also £1100 which is tempting again. It's annoying that £1k has now become my budget!

These are both refurbs.
