Hello,

I'm looking to get a new TV and currently looking at some large 4K screens. How are they for gaming? I've seen some people comment on the refresh rate not being great for it.

Any advice would be appreciated :)

What do you want out of it?

For gaming the Sony W7/W8 models are the best I believe.

You certainly don't want a 30hz 4k screen for gaming.

Well I want a bigger screen for gaming and I'm moving into a new place so a nice 55" screen appeals to me.

I guess since 4K is available an element of future proofing comes into my thinking also even though content is minimal at the moment but I do enjoy movies/sports as well so it's certainly a draw.

The current consoles won't support it really but I don't want the newer TV's to impact on my current gen experience.

I'll have a look at the Sony W7/8's

Cheers

have a Sony KDL42W7 for my PS4 and couldnt recommend it enough, can be picked up for around £400.00 for the 42" maybe cheaper if you shop around

Have a Sony w8 myself, just recently got it. Very good set imo. Was a bit worried buying a Sony tv as I'd gotten so used to Samsung sets, but trust me the Sony W8 is a fsntastic gaming tv, and it's pretty good with movies as well : -)

And for 500 quid for a 48" panel, great value as well. Highly recommended

I have recently bought a Sony 50" KDLW829 and it is quite awesome :)
I have hooked up my Wii U/XB1/PS4 and the pic quality is just lovely
Having looked at a few 4k models i decided to save a bit on the Sony as I don't really need 4K just yet.
Maybe next year :D

Unless they've found a way of scaling the picture decently I can't see any point of getting a 4k screen when the current consoles will only ever output games at 1080p... all you'll end up with is a worse picture quality.

Buying a cheap 4k now is probably the equivalent of buying an early 'HD' tv which only went to 1080i, and only had component input.

I've got a 4k TV and it works great for games. Also Netflix has 4k titles, only a handful, but they include the brilliant Breaking Bad(looks amazing) TV series and House of Cards.

Mine is 50" and cost about £750. The make is Hisense which is popular in Germany and they don't buy crap.

Current 4K sets seem pointless when the UHD spec has only recently be finalised, non of the current ones support full HDMI 2.0 bandwidth and HDCP 2.2 at the same time as far as I know. Also I'm fairly sure none of the current 4K sets support the Rec. 2020 colour standard either.

Though if you really want a 4K set now, the Panasonic one seems to have the lowest input lag.

Yeah, it wasn't really with the purpose of 4K gaming. It was more of a question of whether it would have a detrimental affect on my current gen gaming.

From what I've read 4k screens tend to perform poorly for gaming.

Yeah, sure I heard the same so thought I'd ask the experts on here :)

Jealous, I find myself going into John Lewis and drooling at the demos haha.

Would be nice for movie nights and connecting a Sonos 5.1 :D

New Sony sets are due out soon, personally I would hold off and see what's on offer.

Cheers, maybe these will drop in price then.
