I'm shortly going to be looking for a 55" TV - ideally OLED as I've never had one before and the one's I've seen are very nice looking!

Not really up to speed on the whole OLED/QLED/Nano/Neo(?) specs if someone could give me a crash course? Are there any other features I should be looking for? (I've read a bit about variable refresh rate??)

Main use is for Sky TV but my son also has an Xbox Series X that it will be used for!

Budget-wise I'm fairly open but in the past a grand has been the rough spend!

Any suggestions/info would be appreciated!

If you can stretch a few hundred more pick up a 55 inch g2 but bear in mind that it's wall mount only out of the box. You can buy a stand though.

LG OLEDs are very well regarded. I also like Panasonic TVs. If you're going to game on it, you'll also need to consider refresh rates. There's a list of TV manufacturer websites here.

Thanks for all the replies - the LG G3 looks spot on - a few online reviews suggest this and the Samsung S95c are amongst the best out there at this price point?

The S95c having the "all in one" box for connections appeals to me because if I wall mount it, it makes cable management far better - but since I'm not sure I'm going to be wall mounting, I don't know if I prefer the LG!

The S95C is a good set but Samsung don’t have the best track record for firmware updates.

Rtings review seems to suggest with a newer firmware there is thermal throttling in HDR with aggressive ABl. Don’t personally own the the set myself but very happy with my G3 and LG release updates for years and years.

I think it depends on a persons indivdual use case.

If movies is your main viewing then I’d be looking at a Sony A95. They are the pinnacle of the technology but be prepared to pay. Their image processing is a cut above the rest.

For all round viewing the LG panels are hard to beat, they support Dolby vision, have some of the lowest input lag for gaming and the 13th gen support pretty much all sound formats including dts (a couple of gen’s skimped on that).

If your tv was going to be predominantly home to pc use then I’d get an S95C. Beautiful panel with 144hz refresh rate. You do miss out on Dolby vision (with Samsung instead opting to push HDR10+) but if gaming on pc it’s no big loss.

Based on your mixed viewing with sky, sons Xbox etc then I’d be looking at an LG. The G3 on sale is the one to go for if you’ll be wall mounting. Otherwise go for a C3.

Thanks again for all the suggestions - in the end I managed to go for the LG G3 with the £150 off - albeit only just, it kept going in and out of stock!

Having pushed the button I'm slightly concerned about the fact that it doesn't even come with a stand - at the moment we have our TV on a sideboard but wall mounting should be fine too - with the possible annoyance that we have a plug socket directly behind where the TV is going to go, meaning that once I plug in the power, it won't be able to be pushed back flush with the wall??

Can anyone that has the same set confirm whether you are required to push it fully back (so it "clicks" into place) or whether you can let it sit slightly away from the wall?

Is the C3 basically the same set as the G3, but with a stand rather than wall mount??

Congrats on your purchase.

The G3 is a higher end TV with a different panel. MLA which is brighter.

I can’t offer any assistance on the mounting space but members on here have one so will let you know no doubt….

If you are worried you could always go for one of the universal stands on Amazon that are VESA. Plenty to choose from and only cost about £25-£30

Something like this
Deal of the day: BONTEC Universal Table Top Pedestal TV Stand with Bracket for 26”-55” LCD/LED/Plasma TVs-Height Adjustable TV stand with 8mm Tempered Glass Base & Cable Management-Holds 40 KG & Max.VESA 400x400mm https://amzn.eu/d/cuqfT67

Yeah I'd just buy one of the universal stands as they are cheap and then you don't have to worry about the included wall mount. We're using the one linked above with a LG C9 in the living room without issues.
