Been along time since I needed to buy a new TV as I have been enjoying my old Panasonic 50" Plasma but the time has come to move on.

Budget is upto £1,000

Don't need 3D or any other wasteful gimmicks. Ideally something which offers the same rich colours and deep blacks as my Pani TX-P50X50B.
Speaker quality wont be an issue as i will be using an amp with separate speakers/sub.
50-55"

What do you guys recommend?

Cheers

I couldn't recommend the Samsung UE55H6400 enough, superb picture, great spec, great reviews and it's only £699 (can be had for 650 from richersounds with the VIP vouchers)

Ahh choices choices!!!
Thanks for the recommendations guys.

Do any of these suffer from motion blur/stuttering?
Also, ive seen newer HDTV's where HD picture looks weird. I've seen it on some Samsung TV's and just cant get used to it. Its like as if the HD content has no cinema feel to it...

That's a setting that shops insist on having on when displaying them, or people don't turn off when they get it home. Looks horrendous.

It's not even on my new Samsung so they must have ditched it.

trouble is a lot of spec me threads all say no 3D etc yet 99% of new tv's all have them. it's not an issue. i've 3D on my 50w829 yet have never used it.

as for picture quality the 50w829 or the 55w829 are just amazing tv's. for £700 it's an amazing buy. considering i paid £750 for my 50" last year

Another shout for the Panasonic TX-50CX700B if you can get it for £999. Review sites suggest that Panasonic's mid-range 4k 2015 TVs have superior black levels and viewing angles to Samsung's similarly priced models, although input lag is slightly better on the Samsung(20-30ms vs 30-40ms). If you can't pick up the 700B for a thousand and you're not interested in 3D, then review sites also suggest that the CX680B is almost as good for £900.

I went through quiet a few TV's including Sony 4K and OLED screens and in the end I grabbed the Samsung 55H6400 and tbh I think it's all round better than any of the others. I was not really expecting much but I have been more than immpressed.

So its between the Sony 55W829, Panasonic TX-50CX700B or the Samsung 55H6400

Sony and Samsung are the same price but the Panny is £250 more and only 50" compared to the others which are 55"

Is the picture quality really that much better than the Sony if you exclude 4k?!

Get yourself down Currys and have a play with them. You can then see which features you like best. Ask them for the remotes and have a play with the settings.

Tbh I was expecting to be disappointed with the Samsung. I just bought it because I git a bit fed up after having a Sony 4k and then an OLED both I was not happy with and returned. I have had Plasma screens in the past so was not expecting much from the Samsung but it has really surprised me. It needed a bit of tweaking on the settings to get things how I like but so far it's by far the better all round TV I have used.

I would even say it gives a better picture at 1080p than the Sony did at 4k sat the same distance away. I'm no hardcore TV person and judge things how they look to me rather than endless reviews as I always find my opinion is different on what looks good.

Either the Samsung 6400 or Sony W8 will serve you well both are well received so tbh I would pick on design and features. The Sony is meant to be a pain to wall mount and lacks a few smart features compared to the Samsung but other than that they are very similar but worth considering.

This is my Samsung 6400 on the wall...

I had exactly same choice some time ago...and exactly same tvs to choose from.

From what I've read you can't go wrong with cheaper W829 or S6400. If you have a bit more money and want few new techs I would go for CX700 (YT, netflix, amazon prime in 4k all, better menu/smart options, faster menu and less annoying). I doubt you will see way better picture with CX700 but I think it's worth the price. Many reviews says it's really good mid range tv for its price.

As for me I've got a bit more money now so it's a choice between CX802 or JS9000:)
