Our '09 Passat Estate needs some new tyres. It currently has Bridgestone Potenzas all around, presumably fitted from new. The front are almost down to the wear indicators, the rears have a lot more left.

What brand should I look to replace them with? I'd like a little less road noise if possible, and very good all weather grip. I have read the Michelin Primacy might be a good choice, but haven't used them before so no real idea.

I definitely think I'll rotate the tyres when the new ones are on as well, the rears have tons of tread. My wife thinks we should just change the front two, but I'm not convinced about having tyres from two different manufacturers on the car.

Size?
Conti CS3 would be my recommendation.

Although I'm currently on Pirella P7 Cinturatos and they're good. They seem a bit loud, but then I'm not used to this car so I've got nothing to compare it to.

Just popped down to our local independent. I was told we have 500 miles or so at the most in the fronts, they are almost down to the wear indicators. He quoted me £145 per tyre if we stick with Bridgestone.

Black Circles (www.blackcircles.co.uk) have Bridgestone RE050A's fitted (locally to you) at £117.30 each in your size so your local independent sounds quite expensive.

Federal SS-595 76.83 each on Black Circles, had 2 sets of them and they are fine, perfectly acceptable for a Passat :)

how do you come to that conclusion. I had 4 unmatched ditchfinders when i first started driving and thought they were "fine" at the time.
