The one and only reason why my GF's laptop was running windows, is bacause I could not for the life of me get the wireless to work on it.

I now have recently seen the Linux MCE, and I have to say, I'm bowled over by it and I must try it out! ... might even ditch Media-Portal for this, if it turns out to be as good as it looks. I consequently want to change my HTPC over to Ubuntu, but CBA with struggling with the wireless again.

Does the new release resolve the WPA/ wireless issues?

Aye, and ndiswrapper allows you to use the Windows drivers for your network card in Linux, in case there aren't any Linux drivers available.

Am I the only one then than thinks LinuxMCE looks very amateur-ish?
Haven't used it personally, just looking at the screenshots...

I know what you mean... it doesn't look anywhere near as polished as MythTV. I guess it's still early days, though, and the GUI will be improved... I'd rather they concentrate on making it function properly before making it look nice.

Yeah the GUI's do look a bit rough, however its still under active development and I am sure they will polish it up in future.

I think I wanna have my HTPC dual boot and try Linuc MCE out... really like the bluetooth app for mobiles, follow me permissions, home control... all those fancy things to play with :D

My wife is like "you just got everything working, now you wanna go and get frustrated with a new project, just leave things as they are!!"

... I cant :p

Without wishing to gatecrash the thread, how does the follow-me permissions work in practice with LinuxMCE then?

Just gonna bump this thread because i'm having problems getting this working.

The wireless NIC is picked up fine because it works with encryption turned off. I have gone through all the WPASupplicant steps, but for some reason i get no option for wireless in my network manager applet. The "wired network" comes up fine. Anyone got any ideas? TBH i've used Linux a bit (server admin stuff), but not ever had to go into too much depth, guess i've been lucky in that everything up till now has just worked (with a bit of a kick in the right direction)
