Hey

just got a whole new upgrade PC but seem to be having some problems running windows and some games.

I first installed vista64bit and some games seemed to be crashing, hanging and giving the blue screen of death
Stalker crashed early on
Crysis crashed early on and gave the blue screen of death
unreal tournament 3 (demo) just paused and hung.

Then it started to crash just in windows. I would be surfing the net and it would randomly give the blue screen of death.

Thinking it was a vista64 problem i reinstalled my old XP windows. But that made no difference.

Here are the specs:

Intel Quad 2.4gig
4GB RAM PC6400
8800 GTX
700 Watt PSU
Artic Pro7 Fan

anyone have any ideas?

thanks!

Exactly what make, model is the ram? You check the voltage via the bios, what motherboard?
the RAM is
GEIL
4 1GB Sticks
PC64000 800mhz

M/BOARD
ASUS P5N32/E SLI PLUS.

What soundcard you got? I had loads of crashes with an X-Fi. Since I took it out, not 1 crash and even no more stuttering
no real soundcard is used, its a type of onboard. well it came as a card seperate that you just stick into one of the small PCI Slots.

With 4 1Gb sticks you may have to increase the voltage going to the ram, its under extreme tweaker in the bios, check out your manual. You could try it with just 2 sticks and see if it makes a difference as the voltage it defaults to is normally ok for 2 sticks.

metalmackey = thanks, but the soundcard thing didn't do much good :(

Thanks for that, taking out the 2 sticks made it work fine.
Just wondered if you had any advice on the whole voltage thing. What should the voltage be etc... and any other info if you have it.
many thanks!

I would just increase it untill it runs stable, I like my machine to run all my games stable, for me thats fine. You might end up at 2.0v or 2.1v, it will be ok.
