Heya, currently running an AGP based system and trying to keep it going for 6-12 months as a gaming platform.

Currently have a RADEON 9800 (256mb) XT Slightly OC'd but not much. Now I havn't got a clue as to what a good GPU upgrade would be from this as ATI's models number seem to go a tad weird.

Now out of the selection on OCUK, what AGP gfx card is a good one? I know the 3850 is the best out of the lot but guessing my AMD 3200+ XP CPU will do it no favours and I'd be better off with one of the cards for a third of the price.

Now I'm guessing it's a toss up between the x1950 and the 3650, but not sure what is best due to lack of spec. Only thing that causes concern is that the onboard memory on the x1950 is the same as the card I'm using now (albeit the card I've got is DDR as opposed to DDR3).

So yeah, not sure and any info would be appreciated.

If you can get one, there was an X1950XT in AGP, but the X1950Pro will still be quite some improvement over your 9800XT.

X1950 would be a good match with your CPU but just have to make sure your PSU is up to running it.

I'm running the Athlon 3000 XP and got a 7600GT AGP and that is a pretty sweet setup.

The 7600GT is slowwer that the X1950 but you can pick those up cheap especially 2nd hand and then OC the hell out of it ! !

Think I have, not sure what I've got PSU wise. It's an Enermax coolergiant (Gold), which I think is about 485W :/

What you really need to find out is what Amps it puts out. You should be able to find that on the PSU itself as theres normally a sticker on the side.

Grab a second hand X1900XT or X1950 Pro (whatever is easier to source). The amps sound decent enough as I've ran it on 22amps on a single 12v rail. I did have a 560w PSU though but as it's so close and you are running a slower AMD CPU than I was (X2 3800 @ 2.8Ghz) I think it'll be fine.
