Hi i'm looking for a new gaming headset as my Sennheiser PC 333D one is on its way to the electronic grave yard tho it served me well over the years

I've been looking at the Sennheiser PC 373D 7.1 Surround Sound headset and was asking has anyone had experience with this or is this worth the punt or would someone on here recommend a better 1.

I have only onboard sound thus the USB and would like it wired if possible.

With thanks

First of all do you have noisy or quiet environment?
Open design tends to be lot better starting point for accurate sound, along with lower heat insulation improving long term comfort.
But if environment is noisy that noise basically leaks through, unless sound coming from headphone "overpowers" it.
Closed design's physical isolation attenuates sounds of environment.
At the expense of challenges in accuracy of sound and also more heat insulation inside cups, especially with badly breathing leather/pleather pads.

This trade off applies both to headsets and headphones.

And do you actually need that microphone or headsets, or is it just because headsets are marketed more?
There's quite a lot more choise in headphones, both in design (open/closed) and then in sound:
Do you prefer accurate sound with neutral bass, or want some above neutral bass punch.

Dolby Headphone of those certainly cheap dongles is very mediocre for all the Dolby this and that hype.

Amazon reviews dont look too good. Mainly complain about low volume and the sound control panel (drivers) is a bit poor. Probably better off with something like a HyperII for under £100

It's pretty simple:
Standard gaming product is made by overpricing cheap trash.
Like big fashion/marketing hype Asus Strix, Razer and Steelseries having the way worst frequency response:

You could throw in roller coaster's height profiles with loops in there and they wouldn't stand out...

Hence if you don't actually need microphone choise improves lot.

I think we can be sure that Sennheiser doesn't want to lower their profit margin and USB dongle is the cheapest one they can get away with.
Though certainly neither Kingston wants to lower their profit margin...
