I've been folding on various computers for a while, but I've decided to switch loyalties to the Overclockers team. I've just switched all my home clients over and I'll switch over my work one when I'm in tomorrow. Heres what I'm folding with:

PC1:
2 standard clients on QX6800
2 GPU clients on 8800GTX's

PC2:
3 standard clients on Q6600
1 GPU client on 8800GTS

PC3:
2 standard clients on E6550

PS3 on 24x7 as well.

The GPU's won't update from the servers atm, but that looks like its a problem on their end. Once this is all up and running I'll be averaging a good few thousand PPD.

All my GPU clients have just updated themselves so looks like the servers come back alive (one of them wouldn't download so I rebooted the client and its fine).

From what FahMon is telling me, I'll be getting around 11000 PPD excluding the PS3 and work computer. I need it to be high so I can catch up with everyone else!

I was about to ask about changing over the SMP clients, because I wasn't sure which client I should be downloading. On the download page there's a v6 advanced client or a v5 SMP client, which one is it ?

Just checked again and I'm getting about 14k out of my home computers plus on top of that my PS3 and work computer to add to the mix. Might even get it going on my laptop which doesn't do much.

Not sure why I decided to switch teams, just thought I haven't been folding seriously so a fresh aggressive start was in order :D

Hmmm, just trying to switch over my clients now to the SMP version but it gets stuck at Loaded queue successfully.

Any ideas ?

Oh its working now. Looks like it just had to download a lot of stuff for some reason.

I take it these units are meant to be a lot bigger and take longer to process ?

Oh cool. Everything is switched over to the SMP clients now (well apart from the GPU clients, which I assume theres no performance client for ?), so lets see what type of score I'll be getting now.

The quads aren't overclocked at all and they have only been running for a little bit, but it looks like hey might be around the 800ppd mark per SMP client on my main machine. Can't be 100% sure but this could be down to the GPU clients eating about 50% of the CPU time as well.

I'll leave it all running overnight to see what happens, but I can't help but think its going slower than it should be. One of the SMP installs has been running for over an hour and hasn't even done 1% yet :/

also look for "fahsmp affinity changer" - this should give you a smp boost as well

Thanks for that. Have installed it on all 3 of my computers so I'll see what they give out now.

Run out of room for more computers at home now, so I'll have to hijack some more PC's for my folding farm :)

Hmm after a few hours of folding now, something strange has happened. The GPU clients on my main PC have dropped from about 4000PPD down to around 2000PPD after switching to the SMP clients.

Would it be worth dropping one of the GPU clients to see if everything else runs better ?

Anyway, back on-topic... TheKnat, sounds like your GPU clients are fighting the SMP clients for CPU time. You need to raise the priority on your GPU clients slightly to ensure that they win :) You can do this from the config screen assuming you're running the systray client, as below:

Thank yee kindly sire. Strange thing is on PC2, the GPU client is still coming up as 5000PPD even though it has 2 SMP clients running as well. I disabled one of the SMP clients on the main PC for now, but when I get home I'll make this change and see what happens.

Work computer is now switched over, so lets see what I can get going on.

I've noticed that they like to encourage the latest thing by giving out more points (like the nvidia GPU's) but I don't think I'll be in a position to custom make systems for folding for a while.

I'll just stick with what I've got and see how many points I've accumalated in the next week. Might be able to adjust some stuff to make it more efficient.

Thanks :)

Still having problems getting production up to full capacity as well. Had 4 clients stop one night when the lightning took out my internet connection and then last night both SMP clients on the main machine locked up for some reason, destroying all the processing they had done :(

Hopefully after me tweeking it a bit, I'll get some more stability. I've stopped using the -forceasm flag for now, as the clients wouldn't even start this morning using it.

Oh great and now I just destroyed all the processing done on my work computer by trying to upgrade to the latest client >.< . Wanted to make sure its not going to expire, because I'm going away for a few days and thought it wouldn't get any more work to process.

Think I'll leave my home ones till they finish their latest WU.

BTW does anyone know if i should be using the -deino flag as well, as I can't figure out what its for.

I downloaded both to be sure, but installed the MPICH one. Seems to be running OK, apart from the 1.5 days lost work.

Whats the difference between the two clients ?
