Booted up my laptop running xp pro and I have 1 user account, Jimmy got to the login screen and a new had been created called 'ASP.NET Machine A...'

I logged into mine, and just tried to view network connections, and message came up saying to check my settings. So I now can't see anything in view connections. There should be 2 connections.

Iam sure this has occurred due to me now using a dg834g router, as I set up my wireless connection on my laptop last night. The internet works fine and I can still view my usb adapter software, just not the connection in windows and have this other user account now.

it'a safe to delete the account, its created by installing the .NET runtime package

ok, cheers. If I delete it will I be able to view my network connection again? I dont see why its been disabled anyway?

that won't have changed anything to do with network connections

check to see if all of your devices are plugged in, and in device manager that none of them are set to 'disabled'

Are you sure about that? It wouldn't be created if it weren't needed for something. A better solution is just to finish installing all the updates (including the .NET service packs - one of these has a fix that gets rid of this problem) - then if it's still coming up, use "control userpasswords2" if you want to autologin. If you just want to delete it for the sake of it then it seems a lot safer to leave it be.

Just tried to open device manager, got this

and then this device is shown to be not enabled, although Iam not sure what it is and iam using the usb adapter for my network.

that disabled device is your lan adaptor (network card)

you seem to be running a non administrator account, you might have to login as admin to enable that controller (if you need to use it)

can't login in on the 'ASP.NET Machine A...' account, its asking for a pasword. Ive tried a few anyone know what it might be, assume its a default one?

you're not meant to log in to it

administrator is the default admin account (press ctrl + alt + delete twice at the login screen, then type it in)

Firsty I did'nt create the net account(not totally sure what its for) and dont think I need it. Below are a number off things ive got problems with, that I have found so far. Bar in mind that I only really do basic stuff on my laptop, so there could be other problems that I dont know about.

Can't use my external HDD
Can't view network connections
Anti-virus keeps saying its out off date, when I know full well it's not.

from the sounds of things, your problems are deeper than anything .net would have done, installing .net causes zero problems (it can cause an annoyance because it stops a single user system from auto logging in)

i'd consider a backup + format

What, all I did was set-up my new router on it then restarted it then this new account appeared

you said here you're having some problems, but don't mention what they are..

my 2nd assumption is that you used a cd to setup your router (you never need to do this by the way) and it's replaced your msgina.dll (logon screen application) so they can automatically connect to a domain -poor driver

it's wireless yes?

yer read above post for problems...... Ive assumed that there might be a few problems that ive not noticed as I only use my laptop for basic tasks. Internet and music, word etc.

Nope didnt use the cd, only got the manual off it. Setup my network on my main pc, wired. Yes my laptop is wireless.
