I have just bought a Sony CA2Z0E with Sandybridge i5, and intend to fit an SSD in place of the supplied 320GB 5400RPM WD drive.

I've fitted an SSD to my desktop as a boot drive, but have the following question regarding laptop installation...

Previously, on my desktop, I enabled AHCI prior to fresh installation of Windows 7. On the laptop, the BIOS has barely any options, let alone this one. Should this be an issue?

As I sit and type this, I've just checked at the CMD prompt, and the TRIM function came back as '0' on the standard mechanical drive (I believe this is enabled).

All advice much appreciated :)

The ACHI option is enabled by default so theres nothing to worry about :)

Is this because the TRIM function is currently reported as enabled (@ factory default settings), therefore AHCI must be enabled too?

No, afaik, all modern laptops have it enabled by default, especially if the bois option is missing
