Hi guys,

Getting a new Vectra in next few weeks. One of the diesel models, and either 03 or an 04 year.

Anyone heard bad stuff, or even good stuff for that matter, or better still, own one and have some opinions.

Thanks folks

:)

dad has a sri, lovely car imo, interior was nice.

i had an estate for a hire car, 2.2 i think, found it gutless and the view out of the rear windscreen was poor. was a 55 plate. it did look nice tho and was easy to judge the size of it.

no experience of the diesels.

Vauxhall have just give the car a facelift and some major suspension tweaks which turn it into a good drivers car, unfortuanly the one your getting suffers from a poor ride and bad handling, engines are strong good disel motor.

It was absolutely rubbish.

Vauxhall fixed it.

It's now... cough... this is going to hurt.. actually quite good.

Unfortunately 03 and 04 plate = the rubbish ones.

have a read of this months evo

they have the new vectra VXR down as evo/scoob slayer

Is it still FWD?

An Evo has 4wd, the least powerful engine has 50 more BHP, its 2 seconds quicker to 60. Active differentials and úber traction control, one of the best chassis ever created in this price bracket and its lighter!! how is it an Evo beater?

Rilot - There's more to a car than looks :D

Gilly - spot on mate :D

if you read the article it goes into detail saying that its not actually a better car than the evo

but it comes supprisingly close

most will think of the image the vectra had in the 90s, when Clarkson just refused to comment on it saying he would get into too much trouble.

with those expectations in mind, it comes supprisingly close,

and i quote

"its an exploitable, composed and exciting car to hustle along, and with a lovely enginge, superb traction and great brakes. In case you hadn't guessed it's much better than any of us had expected." ....

"it [the evo] has just one brief to fulfil, and it does so with deadly conviction. You can only admire mitsubishis relentless pursuit of speed, efficiency and drive involvement. The evo 9 feels exactly what it is, a culmination of years of intense development. It's the most thrilling of the group, it's also the fastest, and the only car without a single element that detracts from the business of getting all of its power to the road and putting a big smile on your face. It wins, and by quite a margin"

So not better or faster than an evo, but supprisngly close, and much more comparable to a scoob in terms of its usefullness in day to day life.

great advice said:
That'll do me :D big difference from calling it an Evo slayer though, not a lot on the road slays an Evo :D

perhaps i got a little over enthusiastic

to be honest, seeing a vectra getting anything other than a slating in evo came as a supprise !

Its a Vauxhall.

Meaning it comes from the same company who produce the Zafira, the VX220 and the Monaro...so is being a Vxl necessarily such a bad thing these days? :p

The Veccy C got Fleet Car of the Year 2005, the new diesel engines are supposed to be very good and they're great mile munchers.

Isn't the Manaro a Holden and the VX220 a Lotus?

I had the misfortune of driving one about 3 years aog for about 3 months; and I hated pretty much everything about it. I was even tempted to ask for the Ford Ka loan car back that I swapped it for.

The steering was floaty and inprecise, wasn't particularly comfortable, the 2.2 litre engine was gutless (press the loud pedal made it louder, didn't do much else) and the indicators are a fantastic example of taking something that works and turning it into a complete pigs ear. It's not a particularly big car, but managed to feel even lardier than it was, not helped by the suspension which managed to shock minor bumps through your arse while still managing to wallow around in corners. The stereo was also a pain in the bum; seeming to randomly jump around radio stations.

I, and at least 3 other people, also suffered from the dreaded fuel pump problem too. I assume they fixed it, but they had an issue where the fuel pump got jammed (apparantly because of the pressure difference) and you had to brace your foot against the side of the car to get it to shift. A colleague actually had to call the RAC to his because he couldn't get it out :)

I was quite glad when someone drove into the side of it so I could give it back.

Probably not what you wanted to hear, and I hope you have better luck than me, but I certainly never want to drive another.
