So....

Upgraded to 200mb broadband with Virgin - needed new hub.

Guy came and installed it - all good.

I have been working on house today so had boiler turned off.

Turned boiler back on...Wireless goes slow.

Turned boiler back off..wireless speeds up.

Turned boiler on but disconnected wireless controler - Wireless broadband works fine.

Never had issue before but new router is nearer to boiler than it was before so going to fit a different access point further away from boiler and see how it works.

So worth checking if you have similar issues.

Wireless controller is the one that came with boiler btw - not NEST or similar.

I don't have a wireless controller for our heating, but I guess they broadcast on similar frequencies to WiFi? You could try changing the channel number for your WiFi within the Virgin Hub.

Edit: I don't think the frequencies are similar/overlap but does sound like interference is going on.

Hi,

Thanks.

I had a look at this and tried changing channels of Virgin router but issue is I cant tell what channel remote controller is on as it isn't showing up in my wifi scanner app thing.

It does work to be fair just slower than it should be - not major problem as my desktop is wired and my wireless devices are used for things that are fine with the slower speed but I think range is limited due to it also as signal in garden is far stronger when wireless boiler is off.

might be worth doing a bit of googling based on the boiler model - it does sound like its some interference, try just shifting the virgin routers channel around the range and retesting.

I notice you are using a computer in one picture and a mobile in another.

Is the computer hard wired to the router?
Is the mobile capable of supporting 200mbs?

Hi,

The results were the same on laptop wifi, just when I was posting I couldn't be bothered going down to laptop so ran it again on phone wifi.

New AP upstairs I am getting decent speeds on Wifi so def a bit of interference.

Will try the suggested App and see if I cant find a suitable channel on router but I think it may be because it is so close to it now ie in same cupboard.

An app won't detect the boiler, it's probably broadcasting on the same 2.4GHz frequency as your router though. Other devices like DECT phones also use this frequency. Just change the channel as suggested until you get the best results.

WiFi apps will only show networks with a broadcasters SSID tho, I don't think the heating controller will be shown. Does the manual for the heating controller show the frequency it broadcasts? If so, you'll be able to see which channels do not overlap with that frequency.
