New Virgin V6 box -- HDCP 2.2 error

I just plugged up my new V6 box only to be greeted with a message from my receiver on screen saying "This content cannot be displayed because your TV does not support HDCP 2.2.

My TV is a Panasonic GT60 plasma and my receiver is a brand new Marantz SR5012. I know the TV won't support 2.2 but surely my receiver can 'fix' it for me? After a quick Google the only workaround seems to be to go direct to the TV and take optical audio out from there? Or use ARC. Neither of which I want to do

Help!

Only option is to go straight to TV or use a hdmi splitter which will downgrade to hdmi 2.0 or 2.1 and then should pass thru your amp to your TV.

Basically the v6 is sending 2.2 to your amp but it needs 2.2 at each point. Ie at your TV also, if either your amp or TV isn't 2.2 then you'll get no signal.
If your TV is 2.1 or 2.0 then a cheap splitter will downgrade the signal.from hdmi 2.2 to 2.0

I had two splitters - tried both with no joy :(

Then found an optical audio cable, so I've got the V6 plugged directly into my TV and taking the optical audio into the AVR. Works fine but hard to get the lip sync right seen as I can't see the AVR menu on that TV input now ...

It feels messy to me, after googling it seems a lot of people are having the same issue?

Have you tried on different HDMI ports on your amp? My v6 box won’t work when I connect it to the CBL/SAT port on my amp (which is HDMI 2) all I get is a flickering purple screen. However it works fine when I connect it to HDMI 4, so I’ve just left it like that.

Probably because not all your ports are 2.2. Being that my SR5012 is brand new, unfortunately all ports are 2.2 :(

The other option that may work is a hdmi 2.2 to 1.4 converter..some people have had results using one.
May be worth testing one out

Does the Marantz AVR control app not give you access to Lip Sync adjustment?

Also, what are you watching from Virgin that needs a 4K Atmos-capable display chain? Your TV isn't UHD, and apart from BT Sports and maybe some streamed content then there isn't that much on Virgin that's UHD res, is there? Or are you just setting the V6 box so it upscales everything to UHD res?

Scam - I had the same issue with my new V6 Box, new Yamaha receiver, and old Samsung TV. Followed the advice of a few on the Virgin Media forum and got this:
https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B006KZBC92/
plugged him in between the V6 and the receiver, and no more "HDCP 2.2 Error" messages since. :)

It's annoying that the switch has gone up by £2 since I bought it 6 weeks ago, but I know this particular one works.

I do find the whole setup quite comical, though:
V6 - "What languages do you speak?"
Receiver - "I can speak both Russian and Japanese, but I'm just passing your messages to a friend, and they only speak Russian."
V6 - "OK, well if you can accept both, I'll give you Japanese."
V6 - "Whoa, your friend doesn't understand Japanese! Please change to a different friend who does."
:D

You mean the phone app? That's a good shout actually. Would make my life easier with regards to my FireTV seemingly needing different delays for different apps (see other thread).

I'm not upscaling anything as my GT60 (telly) only does 1080p. I don't care for 4k/UHD right now as the picture from my plasma is beautiful and my flat isn't that big. I'm not sure what you're getting at, but as far as I can tell the V6 doesn't let you force 1080p / HDCP 1.4. Hence my issue.

Thanks for the link. I complained to Virgin yesterday and they said they are working on a fix, but would not tell me when it'll be ready. So I went through to customer relations and managed to get £30 off my next bill. I pushed for an ongoing discount but that would mean them renewing my contract for another 12 months which I didn't want to do. In her words, the £30 was for the adapter. Both the tech team and the relations team definitely knew about this issue, she was fairly quick at offering the discount.

Right now I'm trying to weigh up the pros/cons of these two setups;

Virgin V6 > TV (+) Virgin V6 > Optical > AVR
or
Virgin V6 > Splitter/converter > HDMI > AVR

Am I missing out on any quality using the optical audio? The only thing that bothers me is that I can't see the Marantz GUI on screen, which is especially annoying in that I can't see the volume level when adjusting.

Had same problem as my TV is an old Sony 55EX503. I've got a Yamaha DSP2700 soundbar which has a PS4 and a Shield plugged into it. Plugged my V6 into the soundbar and got the same handshake issue. I've now got the V6 plugged directly into the TV and ARC sending sound back to the Soundbar. Bit of a faff and not ideal.

I did buy the iSolem box Confused Stu mentions but couldn't get it work. V6 into one end and the other into the soundbar. Got the same HDCP handshake message.

If anyone else tells me to get a new TV they're getting a slap, too  :p I'm 100% sure my GT60 plasma provides a far superior pic to anyone's rubbish LCD with film-motion and all that gubbins turned on.

I'm more annoyed that I bought a spanking new AVR and Harmony remote to finally simplify my setup, and this fiasco is ruining that simplicity

Thanks for the info ... I've got and old Samsung TV, a Yamaha AVR and a TiVo v6 arriving next week - so I'm now prepared for this poitential problem and know what to order if I get the same issue.

BTW, while on subject of VM TiVo and HDMI .... has anyone got a working fix for the lack of HDMI-CEC on TiVos (in particular the way that because TiVo doesn't respond to CEC requests that the AVR switches audio to the TV output)? As I had a RaspberryPi lying around not being used I bought the PulseEight HDMI adaptor and followed instructions I found for virgintivocec ... seems to work sometimes but not always so if anyone has had better expereince I'd be interested.

Yes, get a Harmony hub remote ;)

Joking apart it ended up being the only reliable method of automatically controlling and selecting inputs with the TiVo in the chain :(

Thankfully all my devices (Sony TV, Yamaha receiver, Vero 4K, Fire TV (Gen3) and TiVo v6 and also before Vero and FTV a Shield TV) are either Bluetooth or IP remote controllable so no laggy IR

Bought a new receiver today and I have the same problem with my non 4k tv.
I've sent for that splitter so that should fix it,cheers.
Did it work? :) I think I'm going to stick to using optical. With my Harmony it doesn't affect anything for me - apart from being able to see my AVR's gui on screen.

Haven't got it yet.....all the reviews say it will.
It would be nice if the manufacturers pointed out their new fangled receivers won't work with older TVs !

Did you try connecting the iSolem between the soundbar Hdmi output and the tv ?
