Hi

I just checked for updates on my Vista install, looks like the new patch fixes an exploit whereby Vista PC's can run indefinately without activating.

Now, should I be the type of person that would use such an exploit, I might not want to install it. Also, should any of you be the types of people that would use such an exploit, then none of you should install the patch either.

Just.....hypothetically of course....

That patch is included in SP1 as well.
Hypertheticly this would be a good reason to splash out and buy a legit copy  (assuming you dont have a legit copy)
If you do, why would you hypertheticly not want to activate it?

Or hypothetically a good time to get a version that does not need activating...
Or got back to xp :p

Well i ticked it to install with Silverlight, Silverlight installed & the KB 940510 did not saying that it was not needed :)

90% sure its a patch that removes the remaining two mainstream cracks that work with sp1

according to news sites anyway

Installed on my 100% legal Vista Ultimate and it has messed up the boot environment which I am currently struggling to recover!!

not surprising really

microsoft managed to thwart most of the cracks / workarounds in the SP1 release, but a few slipped through the net, now they've released this to stop them too

can you blame them? lol
