Another vote for LG Direct Drive here, had ours for 6 years so far and its great and pretty much silent.

Good call? Due to them being included in the various places I've lived i haven't actually bought a washing machine since about 2006.

Yes, in my opinion. It's an LG, it's got a 5 year warranty, and the reviews of it on the site are good.

It arrived yesterday, motor is much quieter then the Hotpoint in our old house. This however has the odd effect that you can hear the pump working

It has an array of smug little chirps and fanfares depending on what exactly it's up to.

I grew to like the little song my LG used to play when it finished the washing, and I miss it :cry:
