Hey guys,

Just thought i would start a discussion on here about the new DSLR camears coming out at the moment, especially the Pentax K10D which i think looks fantastic. And how they are likely to compare with the current standard products.

So we have:

Pentax K10D:

Stand out features
10Mpixel Sensor with dust removal (un-known manufacturer, Sony? Samsung? Kodak?)
22bit A/D with some fancy processor
Image stabaliser by CCD shift technique (2-4 stops)
Fully weather Sealed!! Yay!
Sensitivity priority mode and ATv mode, Yay!!
Large Glass Pentaprism Viewfinder
Pentax lenses.... have u seen the new 70mm? it's 26mm long!!?? lol
Body $899

My opinions
Looks fantastic to me, as long as the sensor and processor are half reasonable then I'm pretty sure i'm going to buy it. The weather sealing is amazing at this price! Also FINALLY someone has realised that you can do more than change Apeture and Shutter on a DSLR and have implemented a ATv mode. Obviously CCD shift will be really usefull too. Also looking forward to their 16-50 F2.8 and 50-135mm F2.8 with USM!

Next up..

Olympus E400:

Stand out features
10Mpixel 4/3 Sensor with dust removal (Panasonic i presume? )
World’s smallest and lightest D-SLR
New brighter viewfinder
Nice old style looks

My opinions
Looks like it may be a lot better than their previous efforts, but i'm still not convinced on the whole 4/3rds thing, and i'm not a fan of Panasonic sensors...

and now, not a DSLR but i don't care... it's a Leica!!

Leica M8

Stand out features
Leica's first Digital Rangefinder camera
10Mpixel 1.33 crop factor Kodak Sensor
Funcky design of Micro lenses to eliminate Vignetting
Built like a tank and looks just like an analoug Leica
$2900

My opinions
Oh my god!!!! Look at it.... mmmm if only i was rich. I would love one of these beauties, but not at that price. I love the clean solid look of it and the "Leica Camera Made In Germany" on the back :D

Others to Look outfor in the coming weeks/months

Fuji S5Pro
If their current small sensors are anything to go by this camera could destroy the competion. High dynamic range and sensitivity go without saying...
[edit] S5pro now released but seems to use the old sensor, just in a D200 body!! Maybe there will be an S6 soon....

Sigma SD14
Fitted with a new Foveon sensor!! Could be an excellent camera, only time will tell. For thoughs who don't know Foveon sensors have Red green and Blue staked on top of each other, so each pixel has red, green and blue data rather than only one as with standard sensors. Thus far greater per pixel sharpness and no colour interpolating.
[Edit] This has just been released with a 14M Foveon X3 sensor :)

Canon 40D, new Canon 1Dxxx series?
Well the DIGIC III sensor is now out in compact cameras and i'mi expecting canon to release a new top end part soon! Maybe a 22-24M beast connected to DIGIC III. Also its possible we'll see 40D with 10M and cleaning sensor, who knows....

So then guys how do u reckon these will fit in alongside the current lineup? In the Prosumer DSLR catagory we should have quite a choice of 10M DSLR's!!

Canon EOS 400D
Nikon D80
Pentax K10D
Sony A100
Olympus E400

photos

It's going to be interesting to see who comes out top, i'm putting my money on the Pentax.

So give us you opinions!

the prime example is Sigma, the SD10 has been discontinued with no sign of a replacement.

http://www.sigma-sd14.com/ Sigma SD14 Due on 24th Sept. I fully understand what you are saying though. It could well be a problem but I don't personally feel any of these brands are going to be vanishing soon. :)

Just a quick up date, Sigma have now released thir SD14 and Fuji have released their S5Pro. Suprisingly the S5Pro features the same sensor as was in the S3!! However it is now in the D200 body :) I was expecting something new sensor wise from them. Anyway here are the links:
