Was thinking to myself wouldn't it be cool to view pictures uploaded by other OcUK customers of their hardware "in action" right next to the review section in the product details.

Here is a mock example so you can understand more what I mean :)

Pictures could be uploaded by OcUK customers then approved by staff / forum admins :)

Not sure how easy this would be to achieve and administrate (shouldn't be too difficult tbh!), but I think the idea itself is excellent :) It would really offer assurance with physical components (such as cases) that the product would suit the purchasers needs :)

and saves hours of browsing and going through forums to get pics :)

Not really, OcUK usually gives you the option to pick the case and the parts are far better than you would get from any other place. I am told Dell is made with no name brand parts made in china somewhere? At least OcUK has the decency to tell you specificly what parts you are getting.

Yea thats true, but still its allways good to see lots of "real" pictures of a product before you buy :)

OcUK could at least try this feature with just cases for starters to see how it goes!

Could even stretch it further and included links to reviews from trusted sites! :p

Its features like these that make people buy from sites. OcUK allready has the upper hand with site navigation, but with these additional benefits just think how much more custom would be generated ;)

Sounds good to me, would be good for cases, monitors and particularly to get good shots of board layouts and coolers. My only concern would be that you would have to guarantee that the picture shows was EXACTLY of the product shown i.e. any mofification was detailed, otherwise people would get confused. Might mean OCUK have to filter the pics before they go up.

Yea thats what I meant when I said pictures would be submitted for approval first.

Could also make it that when you click on a thumbnail and open the bigger picture, it includes a description entered by the user.

I.e. Here is my Lian Li v1000 in action, note: I have added 2 extra fans for additional cooling.

Great idea. Only potential problem i can see is the extra storage space required if it takes off... so probably have to impose some sort of max res (1024 x 768)?

User's could also choose to enter a url if they allready have the image hosted. Also images larger than 1024 x 768 could be automatically resized too.

Seams like it would'nt be that complicated :)

They could use the method suggested in the mock up I made, i.e. click on a button that says "submit a picture", then you have the option to browse for a picture on your system or enter a url from a picture allready hosted.

Only thing I can think of is that it might tarnish the consumer's perception of a product, and the companies might not be too happy about that. Their lovely PR shots are taken for a reason.

Basically this feature's primary objective is to cut down on time spent searching for these "real life" pictures and to bring some additional functionality to an allready nicely designed website. Pictures that may bring down the quality of the product would obviously be declined in the approval process.

Pretty good idea I think, reckon a lot of people who buy from OCUK like to see something more than the manufacturer's photos, its why everyone always shows such an interest in build photos.

Yea I'm building a new rig at the end of the week and all I have done in past few weeks is look at various builds and try to find ones with the equipment wanted! You can have your work cut out for you sometimes lol.
