New website with same Domain name?

So a family friend has asked me to update her website, Im ok at creating an actual web page using dreamweaver but I have absolutely no knowledge of uploading a site and getting a domain name. She had a website built a few years back and has a domain name that she wants to keep, how do I upload my newly created website with this domain name? This may be a silly question but I have absolutely no experience in this field.

You'll need the login details to the hosting that the website is hosted on. You then should have access to upload your files through the control panel or with FTP. If you can use FTP, then I suggest you use FileZilla FTP, which is a free FTP Client.

When someone is hired to update a website how do they keep the domain name exactly the same?

If they're hosting it on her behalf, she doesn't have any details and would like to continue with the current hosting arrangements, then she'll need to contact them.

By continuing with the same hosting arrangements, or changing the DNS records to point elsewhere.
