Phew, i just built my first pc ever (yay!) but now its time to install windows. I'm using Win. 8 release preview as i actually like the metro interface and i don't wanna buy 7 when 8 is just around the corner. I just put all mobo/gpu drivers on usb stick and copied them onto new compuer. Loaded them all and restarted. the screen has still got a black border around it and i can't connect to the internet wirelessly (do i need ethernet? I dont have a phone socket in my room :() I hope not, and i hope you can help me get them fixed.

Please help a newb :o

screen still has a black boarder....that will be fixed in your graphics drivers, probably called something like digital scaling or something similar.

as for the wireless, are there win 8 drivers available? i wouldnt be using windows 7 drivers and expecting them to work.

i pretty sure that means no drivers until Win. 8 is officialy out. I used the Win 7. 64 bit ones. Am i screwed?

(posted here because no-ones on the win. sub-forum and this is urgent!)

what resolution have you set the screen to, go into display properties and check if all is ok.

have you got a usb stick or card for your wireless ?, drivers installed ok ?

How large is the black border?

If it's a couple of mm then that's perfectly normal.

If it's larger than that, and you're using a HDMI connection, then you need to set overscan to zero in the CCC.

Or just use DVI if you have the connections and cable.

For wireless Internet you need a wireless card or USB adapter. Do you have one?

AMD's windows 7 drivers do not work on windows 8.

rule #1, check the AMD's website first http://support.amd.com/us/kbarticles/Pages/Windows8ConsumerPreviewDrivers.aspx
rule #2,

overscan.jpg

Set that to 0.

Thanks! i got the drivers off Sapphires web-site! How would i go around uninstalling the current drivers i have got? Why do i need usb adapter/wireless card. When i asked for advice on here and many other various forums i was never told i needed one for a completely ne wbuild? But i still think i need windows 7 as my gigabyte drivers are not working and gigabyte said that they won't release until Win. 8 release. Still annoyed as i asked many times and people said it would work :( Now i have to blow another 60-70 quid for &. then i need to get some games off steam, so it will come to around 100 pounds :(

goodness me, slow down a second:p

Do you have a wireless device of some kind? does your motherboard have wireless on it, or do you have a wireless card or wireless usb dongle? if you dont, how can you expect to connect to a network wirelessly?

Secondly, for windows 8 you need to use windows 8 drivers wherever possible. As i explained, you should not expect windows 7 drivers to work. You can download the windows 8 drivers for your graphics card from the link in my last post.

Also, please dont take this the wrong way, but i am concerned that you are building and messing around with pre-release versions of windows when you don't know how to do something as trivial as un-install software - is there somebody local who can give you a hand with this and walk you thought it step-by-step?

It does not.

That's how you remove drivers as well.

boot from your windows 7 disc and when it give you the option, do a quick format on the drive first.

You'll still need a wireless device if you want wireless networking :)
