Hey Guys,
I'm building a new machine in the coming days, and cannot seem to find a good UP TO DATE answer on this - namely, at this point in the Windows 11 lifecycle is it STILL causing headaches with games or performance, or have the issues been worked out now, and it should be first choice?

I'm quite happy to stick with Windows 10 if it seems this still has the best balance of performance and stability (as well as compatibility) however if Windows 11 has now matured, happy to give it a go, especially as I had heard good things about performance, as long as memory integrity etc options were disabled.

The CPU is going to be a 12400 for now, so no E-core scheduling to worry about. There is a chance a newer/higher end CPU may be dropped in later however, so if Windows 10 still doesn't play nice with E-Cores, might make the decision more obvious?

I stayed in windows 10 for a year. I had a second SSD to test out windows 11. As soon as 22H2 come out I switched all devices to windows 11.

Doesn't appear to be any issues now compared to what there was at the start.

If you have a spare drive sitting about you could test windows 11 out first.

Thanks, I'll bear that in mind :)

Any pros/cons noticed to either, in the current state?

I wouldn't have dared try Win 11 on release, but it's been a while now!

the only thing that tilts me is, there is no way on the main / admin account to set up, booting straight to the desktop, I need to put my stupid 4 PIN code in every boot.

I'd go with Win11.

I wanted it because I'm running a 12700K, but even so, still would have gone for it.

Yeh, the latest update screwsed up my system when I updated a few weeks ago, to the point it was unuseable, then it transpired the same update had performance issues, and it disappeared from my PC.

It appeared back again recently, supposedly fixed, but I haven't updated to it yet.

Would still recommend Win11 though.

On Windows 10 at least you can disable Windows Hello by searching for hello in the start menu, and then run Netplwiz and that gives the option to not need to enter your password (or pin) when you log on. You need to do both steps. Not sure if it works or has a similar process for w11

I prefer Windows 11 because of the start menu layout and things are easier to find on the settings pages. It looks smarter as well, as it's trying to look more like a Chromebook OS interface.

There's just 2 things I want from Windows 11 that have always been available on previous versions but can't be done in 11:

- dock the taskbar to the left hand side of the screen
- folders having image previews in File Explorer (they all look the same now, just solid yellow)

Windows account.
I'm likely going to go 11 simply on the basis of minor gains in certain newer games and benchmarks, and to help me adjust to it as I'll have to move sooner or later.

I bought a windows 10 license however as I can use it for either!

Sorry to make this thread alive again, but thought i would ask a question, i know i don't need windows 11 pro for gaming, but if i did go with pro instead of windows 11 home, would pro maybe be a bit slower because of the extra features/processes running, or no difference ? any of you using pro, thx

No, no difference at all.

Only difference these days for retail users is Bitlocker which comes with Pro.

Ok thx, think only reason i used pro with windows 10 was, so i could stop windows update from auto installing my nvidia drivers, so windows 11 home dont auto install drivers then ?
