Hello all,
I’ve hit a bit of a brick wall at the moment trying to find a replacement for my trusty MX3200 desktop set, which has served me well for over 3 years now and still going strong.

My main uses vary from long gaming sessions on various genre of games, coding/working and weeks of just surfing with no gaming. So this new mouse has to be able to work in many different areas.

Oh, and here’s the snag, it has to be wireless. The way my desk is set up using a wired mouse just wouldn’t work, and I really want to avoid having USB extension cables all over the place, so please don’t tell me I should just get a wired mouse. I’ve been there and done it and since moving over to wireless i want to stay here.

So, I guess what I’m looking for is something wireless, comfortable, 7-9 (programmable) buttons and good battery life.

At the moment my MX3200 mouse can survive well over a month on 2x Energizer 2000mAh rechargeable with use all day every day, my keyboard last close to 6 months. Its ridicules the length of time this set can last on a single charge.

I don’t mind dropping the battery life to a couple weeks if I were to get a better mouse. I haven’t really got a budget as such, considering I use the mouse for work and play pretty much every day I’m willing to spend a bit more on the comfort. So I would consider anything up to £100.

Any personal experience on the mice you recommend would help my decision.

Thanks.

MX Performance for the ability to use it on a variety of surfaces, or the G700 for the buttons and better tracking performance.

Battery life on either is not great, but buy some eneloops and a charger and it's not a problem.

Hi there,

I am leaning towards the Performance MX and hoping that it can hold it's charge for a couple weeks.

The G700 seems to last a day or 2 at most, same story with the MS sidewinder X8, cyborg RAT 9 and the Razor Mamba.

i've found the mamba to be the most comfortable out of them all but also most expensive and power hungry. The ones i've listed are all "gaming grade" mice and i'm not too sure if there's any "normal" wireless mice i should be looking at. The Performance MX is probably the most normal, expensive, but normal.

Well, the Performance MX is more of a general use mouse, I'm using it right now, and thinking of swapping it for a G700.

From my use of the MX, I've noted a few things:

- The placement of the side buttons are too high up and very awkward to reach. The G700 amends this by having the back arch lower, more akin to the MX Revolution type arch.

- The rubberised grip, while nice and comfortable, will be susceptible to decomposition and bacteria collection if you have sweaty hands. The G700 uses a rough textured surface to avoid this.

- The mouse has kind of an 'unnatural' feel to me. I presume this is because of the non centred laser.

The G700 has a battery life similar to the MX, if slightly less. Neither won't last a couple of weeks under heavy use.

Hi there,

yeah i did notice the buttons were a bit high on the PMX.
the only thing putting me off the G700 at the moment is the stuttering issue in wireless mode.

It appears it was a common issue when released but quite a few people still get this according to the logitech support forum.

i'll keep an eye on it.

Thanks for your input on the PMX.

Hrm? I heard that issue was fixed in an update, and haven't heard of it being a major problem since. As with Logi's support being great, if you did manage to get a dud it'd be no problem. Don't be put off the G700 if you really want it by a tiny (though now supposedly eliminated) problem.

I will most likely go for the G700.

I was just keeping my options open.

Razor mamba being the most comfortable of them all, the Logitech being the next best thing. The cyborg RAT 9 and sidewinder X8 not being designed for humans put me off.

Again, thanks for your input.
