Hi chaps, I’ve be asked by our IT guy at work to put together a hardware spec for five new workstation machines. His area is networking and systems stuff, so he knows little about building PC’s from components.
I work for a small engineering outfit which doesn’t have much of an IT budget, we are looking to build our own machines this time round due to rubbish support and poor yet costly prebuilt systems we had last time.
The workstations will primarily run Pro-Engineer wildfire 5 and AutoCAD, the machines must utilise a Pro-E certified graphics adaptor (basically any current Nvidia Quadro or ATI FirePro card)
I’ve been given a modest budget of £550 max per unit.
No peripherals, monitor or OS needed, we will be running them on W7 64bit
I’m looking for a machine with as much ram, processing cores as possible. Key to the graphics card is maximum open GL support and not number crunching power.
Its a bit of a tall order but I have put together what I think is a pretty decent system within budget, yet still provides a bit of future-proofing in terms of memory expansion.
I’m just interested to see what you guys come up with, see what helpful input you may have.
Cheers guys
