I'm a bit surprised i couldn't find a thread about this.

Set in pre-colonial and colonial period of the Americas. In this version of the world, the supernatural is real. The developers describe the game in a horror-like fashion. New World is emphasized to be open ended and sandbox in nature, specifically being able to choose to live on your own or join with other players to build villages, towns and forts.

New World is focusing on a couple of key aspects that will set it apart from the current mainstream MMORPG stock. First of all, there are no classes. The game supports a wide array of skills and specializations that you are free to pursue and work towards as you wish. If you'd like to tank, heal, support, do damage as a sneaky rogue or a powerful mage all these options are available to you.

The gear system is also equally varied, and so between this and the open ended progression system, you will be offered a large amount of customization for your character. The style of armor and weapons is pseudo-faithful to the time period so you will find muskets and explosives can be found along with your standard array of melee and magic.

This focus on specializations combined with a deep crafting system and a dangerous world means you will want to make some friends. The game puts a very heavy focus on social features and everything that comes along with player interaction. Forming guilds to take on greater challenges and build your empire (more on that in a moment) will be a good idea if you want to survive.

I'm quite looking forward to this game. It sounds pretty awesome.

I hope it comes out reasonably soon since there is a real lack of games I'm interested in at the moment. I've been playing Elder Scrolls Online recently which is the only game I've got into in the last six months or so.

Just received the alpha email and invite for this so time to download when i get home i guess and see if its worth the storage space

So instead of dragons, the undead, and various half-man-half-parrot monstrosities... you have some farmers and the odd dingo? :p

Got to be honest this doesnt really look like a mmorpg to me at least not the kind i am used to. It looks more like a survival game ala Conan, Atlas etc etc

At 16:26 in the above video, the collision detection and combat there look clunky as hell, they all just bump into each other.

Amazon have a lot of financial backing so I guess it could all change.

Clunky is an understatement, it's truly awful ;)
