New X1950XT connect3D

What temps should my card be at ?

Its at 51 degrees just sitting in windows.

well, thats a good temp :) mine is usually about 57*C sat in windows - the card doesnt crank up until 70*C+ (which you will definitely hear!)

Stagnant (warm) air will not help, but a good airflow will certainly reduce that temperature. Out of interest, I ran the fan at full speed and it got the temp down to about 40-43*C idle. My X800GTO would idle at 29*C, so it's not that bad really :)

As a sidenote I had a very similar prob with me x1900xt when I first got it. I had to use the drivers from one set and the control panel from another. Once I'd done this the card really flew, but I was well hacked off that I had to do this. Ati shoulda provided at least drivers that installed and worked first time. It felt like I was beta testing for ati at the time. Incidentally, the guys over on "rage3d" forums were very helpful and gave me lotsa useful info. if in doubt, head on over there and see if tehres any helpful info.

Is it normal for the x1950xt fan to speed up during games (like 2142) ? Mine speeds up for a bit, then slows down etc. Not used to it since my last card was an x850xt.

The fan is temp controlled. So yeah it will speed up depending on the temp.

At the moment im using the new cat 6.12 drivers with no control panel, only the ATI tray tools.

Install them normaly, seems to work OK. However, i think it utterly discracefull that a piece of hardware close to £200 doesnt work out of the box. I mean, would you buy a car for £20000 and then find out that it doesnt run on normal petrol, however it will run on somthing that will be released in 1 month time

ATI you suck! I realy wish i went with Nvidia, lol i left ATI after i had the radeon 32 and my mate (duke) had the Geforce 2 GTS and i had to go for Nvidia. ahh well. still getting good performance so i cant complain that much.

problem is the connect3d ones dont work out of the box, you have to download the drivers off the net as shown in my post ^

May be its not ATIs fault, probably Connect3ds

ok, some people really don't BOTHER to read. It's not just connect3d cards with the problem - it is sapphire and HIS too. A quick search on the wonderful google shows this.

Loadsamoney: "They do work out of the box, why do you think they come with driver CD's."

You really aren't the sharpest tool in the box from that post. The problem WAS that none of the supplied discs were with working drivers and that ATI were not supporting them on their website.

And evidently it is not the first time ATI cards were supplied with poor drivers.

Dude you're ruining the vibes... all the positive energy, man... it's getting sucked away.... ;) :D

ahem. apologies - just you know how it is...people chime in without a clue...yawn...

After a lot of research, it mostly appears to be a UK problem (not seen many X1950XT 256MB about on Newegg etc) and to boot, SOME people are being shipped 6.10 drivers (me and other suffering folk) while the lucky ones seem to be getting 6.11 drivers... how odd!

7.1 all the way!

The 6.12s work fine. What is wrong with them ? I'm using them on my 1950xt.

They performed worse than the 'forced' (manually installed) Catalyst 6.12 BETA drivers I had.

Maybe I'm just picky, but I know that the performance should be better.
