I have that headset.
You don't get the sound through the usb as it has got a 3.5mm jack for mic and one for sound. The usb is used for power, either through pc usb port or a mains plug\usb adapter.
 
This item is great in principal, but it is flawed. Connecting a stereo headset and mic from a pc will ONLY give chat sound to the headset and not sound from the console as well.

So, when you have them on, it effectively makes it harder to listen to game noise from the telly, because, you guessed it, you are wearing stereo headphones.................

Other companies making these have a breakout headphone lead that connects to the tv headphone socket as well - so both game and chat come through and are far superior imo. (SteelSeries Xbox Headset Connector available in black and white)
