For anyone else who signed up for the Xbox dashboard, you'll notice that everything is now priced in local currency instead of points, and any points you did have will be converted to actual monetary value. I had 3340 points, which was converted to £28.56.

Unfortunately though, it seems MS are using this transition to implement a price hike. I haven't had a proper look myself, but people elsewhere are reporting that, for example, content costing 800 points before is now £8.99 which is about £2 more according to what MS presently charge for points:

500 Microsoft Points - £4.25
1000 Microsoft Points - £8.50
2000 Microsoft Points - £17.00
5000 Microsoft Points - £42.50
6000 Microsoft Points - £51.00

So if there's anything you want to buy, it seems the advice is to buy it now before it affects everyone.

Bah, I just wrote this in a new thread:

With the next dashboard update Microsoft are removing the MS points and replacing them with your local currency. This dashboard update is currently in closed public beta.

So I was wondering how they would manage this - and in my naivety I thought they might get on the generous side and round values up and the like. Not by much, just where the conversions weren't exact. No one would be left out of pocket.

Stupid me. This is not the Microsoft way.

It seems they've taken the opportunity to increase the prices of everything in the market. People are reporting that games that were 800 points are now... £8.99. Even though 800 points can be bought from MS direct (the most expensive way) for essentially £6.80.

But wait... if you have 800 points, you'll get the 8.99 in monies, right? Wrong, you get the original conversion... you'll get £6.80. So that game you could afford before the update, you can't afford after the update.

Nice one Microsoft. Cloak and dagger price increases. No wonder they were so excited about the death of MS points.

800 point games have always seemed an alright price... under seven quid. Now they're nearly 9 (which in my head rounds to a tenner) makes many of them overpriced to me.

... and then did a quick check to see if anyone had beaten me to it.. :p

They really hate their customers don't they. First they try and **** over potential XBO customers and now they **** over 360 customers. The prices were largely overpriced anyway so this is just taking the ****. They really deserve the M$ tag it would appear.

LOL youve got to have balls to be a MS fanboy, seem to be trying to take the crown from Apple, got to admit they are definitely going about it the right way with every single decision/communication they make

Its all quite impressive! Only good thing I suppose is at least they cant charge you more once the marketplace is on the XO now theyve done the conversion already. Still got that to come on the PS4 no doubt, though it will be even more transparent if they do up the pricing structure...

I always thought points was a clever way or masking the link between real money and purchases. It also create the "I have 700 points left over, what can I buy" situation.

Im surprised they got rid of it - anyone know why? Always thought it was a tidy way to have 2 methods to increase profit, either make the digital items more expensive or alternatively make the points more expensive to buy...

Its why I thought EA went with FIFA points with the latest FUT.

Microsoft's philosophy has been to treat customers like cash cows for a long time now so this comes as no surprise, the sad thing is their users are so hopelessly entrenched with using the Live service that they can't do anything.

I don't mind them changing MS Points to proper currency as it gives me a better idea of what I'm spending, as I think it's far too easy at times to spend 400 points on something when perhaps it's not worth it. It's very wrong of them to bump prices up now though, unless it is a mistake as suggested above. I've only got just over 400 points left though, so I may as well buy the Walking Dead DLC now and be done with it.

i don't know why people are complaining as its a beta dashboard so not final, yes there are bugs such as the pricing while its been changed to money from points. they fixed it and will give money back because of the error, no problem

Glad to hear it's just a mistake, hopefully it'll be rectified soon. Still, it'll be interesting to see whether the pricing settles back to the same as it was before.

I know, it's disgusting MS keep taking my money I wish they were more like Sony and everything was free and not about making money from the customer :)

i read about this and bought State of Decay last night on the website before i ok'd the download - 1600 points before now £14.99 from what i read.

i wonder if they will stop the rewards program now it's listed as real money rather than points?
