new XFX HD6870 very loud :(

hi guys

my gtx460 was artifacting so i bought a new card to replace it,the XFX HD6870 1GB,1 large single black fan on it.

its a lot better framerate than my gtx460 but sounds like a jumbo jet on takeoff lol.

it idles at around 40c with fan at 25% and gets upto 75c while playing bf3 on medium settings with fan running at 85%,does that sound about right?

problem is its so noisy i cant concentrate on the game its so distracting,are there any similar quieter cards than this,my old gtx460 was near silent with twin fans on it.

I find my 6850 Toxic is very loud too but i mainly game with surround sound or headphones so i cant really notice it.

Isnt the Ice model a supposedly quieter? although somebody who owns it would be better to make a comment i guess.

Are you happy performance wise with the 6870? If so is it something you can live with? I know that i can with my card knowing im getting very goof fps and smooth game play.
 
performance for me is spot on,the noise is not good tho.

right just so you understand how noisy it is lol,i have made a video,filmed on my htc.
the first part is skyrim with my old gtx460 in showing artifacts,you can barely hear the fans..then when i switch to bf3 video with the new xfx card you will see what i mean...its all in the same place etc nothing different except for the little pixies inside my tower busily hoovering away!

I got a XFX 6870 black edition a few months back, great card but the fan was serious overkill regarding noise. I got an Accellero twin turbo pro cooler for it for £25, temps are way better and i cant hear it even on 100% fan.

If I were you the video card would be in the bin, that is pure torture and surely an infringement of human rights! :p

I had an Asus 6850 last year and didn't sound a fraction as bad as that!
