I have formatted my c partition with a newer version of xp than i had previous. and now when i try to delete install copy etc. some files/programs fail to initialize or i get an access denied prompt. I have full admin rights.

has anyone had this before and how did ya sort it

The data is from your old install, and it is security protected, to stop people messing with your stuff.

The fact that you get that prompt says that you aren't logged in as admin.

If you are logged in as say 'Bill' and you are an Administrator, you don't have full access.

You'll have to boot into safemode, or log on as Administrator, then you can remove the protection on the files, or just remove the files.

I had this happen before, and had to do this to allow myself to access 'My Documents'.

I have been through safe mode to give me access and full control over my c: and all folders and subfolders but i still cant in stall kaspersky a/v it says verify i have access to c:windows\system32\drivers\kl1
i cant even find that file but i have given full permissions in safe mode to c: and to the driver folder. I have read i may have a rootkit or malware and thats stopping me from installing a/v but i can install avg free a/v and avg free spyware

yeah i deleted partition, repartitioned and formatted then installed
I cant install in safe mode as it says amdin have set settigns to prevent it. but i`m logged in as admin AAARRGH
