New XrossMediaBar coming? E3?

Not sure I want a new XMB. Unless it improves on the existing one and doesn't do a u-turn and make it all sucky.

If it has some improvements or if you aren't forced to change into it and are allowed the option of keeping the original XMB look, then I don't mind.

Bet you, its got some 3Dness/depth to it...

Be cool to have the normal horizontal bar, but when you highlight media you have 2 diagonal bars - one that represents folders while the other represents folder content...

Just make sure its classy and understated...

I very much hope it's not a complete redesign, i love the XMB it's just its inability to deal with large quantities of files that holds it back. An improved means of browsing external drives and media would be a welcome change, but i'm pensive of a complete revamp.

I'd like to see more trophy data displayed. Like the 360. I hate having to click on my name to see my trophies, and other peoples.

I'm assuming the XrossMediaBar is the PS3's version of the the Xbox Dash, i just wanted to say that i was against the last Xbox Dash update (when they introduced Avatars etc) but now i wouldnt go back, so don't judge

XMB has been around before the 360 even came out.

I think he meant before the PS3 came out. The XMB is a universal menu system that Sony use on a few of their products, the PSX had it, the PSP has it, the PS3 and there were even rumours of televisions having it in the future.

Its all just UI when it comes down to it. What they call it doesn't really define what it is.

Like, when everyone calls every mp3 player an ipod.

i doubt it will be a complete redesign, they use the XMB for everything these days. Consoles, amps, tv's, the lot.

they already do and have done for some time (few years). you can add their bluray players to that list also

Hopefully it'll just be a clean up of what IMO has become cluttered and bloated.

orly? Didn't realize it had spread to the TVs already, i did know of the bluray players but forgot

I agree though it's an excellent system, it's just had too much tacked onto it with the PS3, it needs to be broken down and rebuilt in a slightly more logical manner.

I love the current XMB for it's simplicity but I do feel that from purely a business and competitive point of view it does need a redesign.

yeah, it works well actually as there's a lot less to tack on to the xmb's on their tv's and the like, much more streamlined

eg:

TV

s350 bluray player

to radically change the XMB on the ps3 would be sticking a middle finger up to the effort they've put in to standardising their UI's.

Much prefer the XMB to the 360 version. Love the simplicity and minimalist approach instead of loads of massive whapping icons of all different colours in your face.

Oh please don't change the XMB, i have always been a fan of it. And if they gimp it like MS done with the dashboard it will be a disaster. MS actually took a huge leap backwards with their NXE, and are in dire need of a NNXE now.

i think some of the new tellysdo use it, i know the blu ray players have it.

Folder creation please, let us sort or media how the heck we want, if not....

Larger/better album cover and video thumbnails would be nice with maybe different display options in how media is arranged onscreen.

Improve music playback and features
More support for movie files
3D menus for 3DTV owners
Improved BD loading times
