After a nice bonus from work, and with Christmas and my birthday coming up. I've decided to finally build a new PC.

I'm looking to spend from 500-900

Will be used for gaming, work, watching films and other general use.

I don't need monitor, keyboard, mouse or OS.

At first look, this is a rough spec I've come up with. Any advice or criticism is welcome :)

Memory:
Corsair XMS3 16GB (2x8GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C11 1600MHz Dual Channel Kit

HD:
Samsung 128GB SSD 830 Desktop Series SATA 6Gb/s KIT
Western Digital Caviar Black 1TB SATA 6Gb/s 64MB Cache

Optical Drive:
Asus 24x DVD±RW DRW-24B5ST SATA ReWriter - Black

Power Supply:
PC Power & Cooling Silencer Mk III Series 500W '80 Plus Bronze' Modular

Motherboard:
Gigabyte Z77-D3H Intel Z77 (Socket 1155) DDR3 Motherboard

Graphics Card:
Gigabyte ATI Radeon HD 7850 OC Windforce 2X 2048MB GDDR5 PCI-Express

CPU:
Intel Core i5-3570K 3.40GHz (Ivybridge) Socket LGA1155 Processor

Case:
Xigmatek Asgard Pro Gaming Case - Black

Wireless Card:
Asus PCE-N53 300Mbps Dual-Band Wireless-N600 PCI-E Adapter

How's that?

Z77 not H77 fella ;) The 830 he picked is actually better than the basic 840, trigger used the 840 Pro which is much better.

I quite like the OPs spec, 16GB is OTT for gaming but he did say work too. Just needs a heatsink to help cool the CPU for overclocking. The intel cooler is pretty pants. I can see why the seasonic G series was suggested as it's only a little more than the P&C (also seasonic) but is gold rated not bronze

My mistake, I thought I had chosen Z77 :)

I just thought the price save of the 840 outweighs the gain of 830?

We all make mistakes bud, I've made a few doozies too in my time here lol

YOUR BASKET
1 x Samsung 128GB SSD 830 Notebook/Apple Series SATA 6Gb/s KIT with Norton Ghost - (MZ-7PC128N/EU) £89.99
1 x Samsung 120GB SSD 840 SATA 6Gb/s Basic - (MZ-7TD120BW) £83.99
Total : £183.58 (includes shipping : £8.00).

Compare the write speeds and you will see what I mean. The 840 Pro trigger used writes almost as fast as it reads. Also note the 830 has 8GB more capacity than the standard 840

Thank you all for your suggestions and comments.

I've done some more reading and taken on board some of your advice:
