New Years Day - Polar Bear Dip

I was trying to find something interesting to do on New Years Day. I heard on the news that there was a polar bear dip. I thought that was strange because there are obviously no polar bears in southern Ontario! Apparently it is when a group of people run into Lake Ontario wearing only swim suits in the middle of winter! Anyway, it sounded like a photo opportunity and a nice walk, so I went along to see. Here are the photos.

they do a similar thing up in Redcar in the North East on new years day morning, a load of people run and jump into the freezing North Sea.

Edinburgh too (well South Queensferry really). The annual "Loony Dook" in the river Forth has been going for 20 years now. Never seen the attraction myself

Nuts. But must be a lot of fun. In Russia some people dive in rivers in -20-40 degrees cold... The closet I came to this was jumping in the snow after a "banya" (russian wet sauna) and pouring a bucket of cold water on myself. Actualy it felt very hot after
