New years disaster

my plan for new years was to visit friends in north wales and have a party. I live in central London so it is a long haul mission to get there, my friend is driving up at 1pm and it takes about 5 hours.

I am presently at work

, we were told in the week that we could leave at half day but the CEO is not letting us go yet. he is sat at home whilst I am sat here with no work to do (have done it all!) and my ride is leaving in 30min.

so now I have no plans at all for NYE! anyone recomend me somthing to do in London tonight?

also, if it was that important you would have taken half day as holiday to ensure that you could get away

I was put in this situation some years ago. I just got up and walked out and no-one said anything.

we were informed we could go at half day previously, otherwise I would have booked the whole day off as I have about 15 days leave spare but I was busy at work so figured I could use the time here. am going to ask if I can have it unpaid!

I have friends here but they are all booked into clubs/bars etc that need tickets.

Btw, I'm pretty sure that "CEO" (chief executive officer) is American-English. We normally say MD (managing director).

They tend to be linked to business size than it being British or American English.
