do you think it will do a better job then old blue?

I have an akasa 40mm fan screwed onto my old Zalman and it helps drop temps by 5 or so degrees, then new one wont allow this.

why cant the make a pure copper one?

it wouldnt weigh too much and would perform even better surelly

personally im waiting for this

I think thermaltake have zalmans a55 :D

linky to the zalman NB cooler, finally they've realised that some motherboards use loops instead of pushpins! (i bodged one of the old blue ones on anyway)

they use aluminium because it supposedly has better heat transfer between the air and the material compared to copper (which is what you want on a fanless system) if a fan was to be used then copper would be better.

is the new zalman NB going to work on sli boards?

Yeah I thought that minsta as soon as I looked at it, I dont think the ThermalTake will either.

lets just face it the Ultra_D is a great board but its design is a bit silly :o

I bet AM2 boards move the NB right out of the way of the PCIe x16s.

looking at the pics of am2 boards on the shop they havent moved the NB, they're just using heatpipes instead

Holy 'Massive Heatsink' Batman! Surely it will get in the way of something?

For those of you with sli boards where the graphics card overlaps the chipset and only allows about 10mm of headroom, this ought to be a workable solution.
Now that is huge!
Only 400g

Yeah but do u think it will out perform the old Northbridge or is it Zalman just gimmicking about?

Im sorry guys I know there are some big Zalman Fans (no pun intended) on these forums but IMHO they are guilty at times of ignoring the job in favour of looks

Just for the record i generally dislike zalman products, mainly because their cpu coolers spray hot air over the entire case. Nice if you need vreg cooling but not much use if you want to exhaust the hot air from the cpu straight out of the case.
Also their mounting mechanisms look rubbish.

I think its a gimmick. The original one was better, and neither of them are compatable with sli boards.

Its varies between boards, but most seem to have the end of the top card overhanging to chipset leaving 10mm of headroom. Initially they tried to cool these things with tiny fans and it was a disaster, ask any A8n sli deluxe user.
The only way to cool these chipset is to transport the heat somewhere else where theres room for a heatsink using a heatpipe.

I didn't know there were layout standards for sli? I thought it was up to the board manufacturers where they put everything, within reason.

These will be on our site tomorrow on pre-order with stock arriving in 1-2 weeks time. We will also have the new 9500-AM2 which does exactly what it says. :D

Looks like a fair amount of effort went into it design what with the gaps in the fins for extra airflow. I had the origional on my SLI-D after an hour or so of bending, checking, bending, getting annoyed and more bending and clipping. Was very good though. I had a 120mm amber blowing onto it (bluetack and cable tidys!) and was very quiet and temps were amazing!

One thing i do wonder is seen as though they are all designed to be passive why are they not black? Would mean more heat is given out through radiation (think it has a 5-10% increase) which mean more heat away without noise =>better? Just a thought

Because black only absorbs radiation whereas the heat is being transferred directly on to it via er, whatever it's called. Sorry, been revising psychology for hours, can't remember anything that isn't psychological :P But I could probably establish the OP's dreams and fears from the post (kidding)

looks good, will probably try it to replace a noisy northbridge fan in the other computer. I've found Zalman products to be great but i don't care about overclocking only silence, now if only Zalman can produce some products to silence my girlfriend.

Any chance of the Ting Jing Chipset cooler? You would make a killing with them. low profile heatpipe coolers which can run a already hot NF4 northbridge that is overvolted by 0.2v passive!

I only know this as when installing I stretched the fan lead abit to much and ulled the wire off the fans circuit board.

I'd buy one of those too if its decently priced.

The alternative is to get the one i linked to above, it does the same thing but its just a little more fuss to mount. Those are available in the uk for £45.
