New Zen FTTP user question about existing Asus router v Fritzbox

Hey All
Ive just signed up for Zen ultra fast FTTP service (was sick of Virgin) and I noticed its bundled with a Fritzbox 7530, and wondering how I can integrate my existing ASUS RT-AX86U router and Asus Mesh x2 pods. Is it just a matter of user the fritzbox as a modem and connecting the Asus router via internet. Or can I bypass it all together. The Asus isn't DSL.

Also in terms of open reach installation, if I have an old disconnected BT connection into our office upstairs, would they just go in that way. Our Virgin cable went from the pavement along the ground and into our living room. But would prefer the 1st floor office as a more central place.

You probably won't need to use the Fritzbox router at all if you don't want to.

I'm not 100% on that Asus device, but when they install fibre, openreach actually install the "modem" which you then run an ethernet cable to your router. The router acts as literally a router, not a DSL modem, you might need to change a setting that's all.

I would say that Fritzbox router Zen supply is very good.

As for the placement of the connection by openreach, I think they try to be flexible within reason. When ours was done we had a specific spot in mind, and we got it exactly there, but turns out our chosen spot was also a very easy place for the openreach engineer so both happy. Have biscuits/ tea etc ready.
 
Thanks. Yeah I see from some videos it’s a Ethernet cable from openreach box into the router.
Just on the fence about my Asus router, I’ve had it a year but the mesh side only a few weeks and not overly impressed by the performance. Wondering if Fritz repeaters are an option or use my ASUS router and mesh as repeaters around the house.
 
Fritzbox own mesh equipment is supposed to be very good, it's also expensive.

Might be worth seeing how you are getting on once the fibre is installed first before forking out for new equipment.
