Hello all,

My old compact (Sony DSC10) is finally showing signs of giving up. I've had it for 7 years and have had some good times and some pretty good shots considering it's limitations.

Now it's time to have a play with a DSLR. I'm looking for something cheap ish to start with to have a play, and see if I get on with it. Someone mentioned a 350D. I know this is around 9 years old but is it still reasonable?

Not really wanting to spend more than around £300 in total to see if I like them first. Any suggestions and advice will be most welcome :)

Thanks for the info Alpherah!

I've arranged to pick up an EOS 350D this evening. Just the basic 18-55 lens and a carry bag. They're asking £170 for it. I've agreed £150 with them. Does this sound reasonable for it? It's well looked after and in good condition. Looking at the website, the minimum for the camera and lens is around £170. Not knowing much about these (yet!) would you say that was a reasonable price?

I've taken a plunge and bought a 550D. Had to be done. A lot more complicated than I thought! I had a play this morning at a motocross event but everything was on auto. I think it's going to take a while to get the hang of this one!

If I manage to get some pics half as good as some of the ones I've seen posted in this forum I'll be over the moon! :)
